Summary

In Home, Julie Andrews recounted her difficult childhood and her emergence as an acclaimed singer and performer on the stage. In her new memoir, Julie picks up the story with her arrival in Hollywood and her astonishing rise to fame as two of her early films - Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music - brought her instant and enormous success, including an Oscar. It was the beginning of a career that would make Julie Andrews an icon to millions the world over.

In Home Work, Julie describes her years in Hollywood - from the incredible highs to the challenging lows. Not only does she detail her work in now-classic films and her collaborations with giants of cinema and television; she also unveils her personal story of adjusting to a new and often daunting world, dealing with the demands of unimaginable success, being a new mother, moving on from her first marriage, embracing two stepchildren, adopting two more children and falling in love with the brilliant and mercurial Blake Edwards. The pair worked together in numerous films, culminating in Victor/Victoria, the gender-bending comedy that garnered multiple Oscar nominations.

Told with her trademark charm and candour, Julie Andrews takes us on a rare and intimate journey into an astonishing life that is funny, heartbreaking and inspiring.

not enough Hollywood, too much domestic detail .

Disappointing. Too much detail of her domestic arrangements Became tedious at times. More about her husband Blake Edwards work than her own

wow she is a machine !

It got to chapter 11 and her kid had only reached 8 years old by chapter 20 her child was like 13 and she had adopted two more children. Holy smoke she packs into a year what I manage in 30years.. So many air miles, she must never have to buy a plane ticket again.

Remarkable work

Julie Andrews has been such a big part of my childhood. It was fascinating and very I try discovering behind the scenes of the sound of music and Mary Poppins and I very much enjoyed getting to know more about her personal life and what really made her the incredible woman and artist that she is today. Highly recommended!!

Outstanding and beautifully narrated biography

Let me begin by saying that Dame Julie Andrews DBE is a well-respected legendary star of the big screen. This is the second book of a beautifully read honest account of the early part of her career and family life.
Dame Julie presents a detailed and touching account of her life so far derived from candid and touching diary and journal entries.
She narrates, with clear prose and perfect pronounciation, in great depth about her stage, television and film shows and the astounding amount of time, effort and preparation that goes into her craft.
I especially loved the behind-the-scenes sections on two of my all-time favourite musical films from my childhood "Mary Poppins" and "The Sound of Music". Another highlight, was the candid account of her marriage to the late, great film director Blake Edwards and how they adjusted to the double-edged sword of fame and world-wide media coverage about her private life.
It really is a joy to listen to and there is so much one can learn from and admire about her personality, kind and generous heart!
She continues to be like an English Rose and a role-model for many aspiring actors and really is, a remarkable lady, and like her Disney film character Mary Poppins, practically perfect in every way!

Most boring book ever

Boring boring boring. Cannot believe just how uninteresting this second book was compared to her first. She should have stuck with that

Enjoyed it.

The only thing I noticed was that Julie has picked up Americanisms like skedule, bin for been, airplane not aeroplane, gotten, dove for dive. otherwise she read it very well.

A fascinating....

listen from start to finish about a brilliant and talented actress and singer. The narrator made this book even better because it was read by the author.

A lovely, insightful look into the life of a star

Really enjoyed this book. It delves deep into Julie's personal life and her ups and downs, which keeps you hooked. An insightul look into her charitable work as well - she's so much more than Mary Poppins or Maria von Trapp, and this book is well worth your time to find that out
