  • Summary

  • Sir Michael Caine - perhaps best known as gang leader Charlie Croker in 60s crime caper The Italian Job - tells the stories of remarkable heists and extraordinary robberies from around the world, as remembered by the masterminds, detectives, victims, journalists and witnesses that lived through them.

For more than 60 years, Caine has played thieves, criminals, gangsters and the detectives trying to catch them. But there’s Hollywood and then there’s real life... and that’s when things get really interesting.

From the largest bank burglary in American history, to the world’s most audacious book heist, Heist with Michael Caine travels to America, Australia, Stockholm, Antwerp and everywhere in-between to tell true stories behind the world’s most daring heists.

Badly Written

Could have been great. Unfortunately really badly written. There could have been a better selection of heists covered.

Riveting

Michael Caine brilliantly tells the story of various heists. From the first episode, the story comes to life and we are introduced to the employees who find the evidence of robbery, the police and investigators, and also the perpetrators. This is riveting stuff, well read, written and produced.

Highly recommended.

Fascinating

So very interesting to hear about some of the most famous heists in the world, especially as told by the robbers themselves. How they were executed and why they were caught....but not always with the money !! Micheal Cain was the perfect narrator 😊

Ruined by music track

As will all many of these 'free listens' this was ruined by the poor quality and unnecessarily loud music track. I gave up very early on.

Thought this would be awful; it's actually great

I started listening to this purely for the novelty factor - I love Michael Caine and thought it would just be amusing to hear his narration for a bit. But this is a genuinely well-made podcast that tells the stories effectively, without being dumb. At the same time, it's entertaining and makes full use of Caine. I recommend everyone give it a go!

A fantastic listen

This is an outstanding series, I loved every minute of it. Over the episodes, you are taken through various heists, with different tactics, and different objectives. It is like listening to short thrillers, punchily written, and beautifully narrated.
Michael Caine is a fantastic narrator, his voice has an intimacy to it that make it feel as if you are being told a great story by him.
The final episode is Alexis Conran, who sets out why his own family history has led him to a fascination with cons and heists. This rounds the series out, and gives an opportunity to hear from those whose job it is to stop heists before they happen.
Do yourself a favour, listen to this, you won't regret it

Caine: Brilliant; Music: Constant Distraction

I was so very excited at the prospect of listening to these podcast--after all, I've adored Michael Caine forever! Sadly, this audio production is simply awful. The constant introduction of NOISE--the audio director's idea of a cute soundtrack, I suppose--made the production unbearable to listen to.

The podcasts are interesting and enjoyable, however the constant background music beat is very annoying.

Worth The Listen

Michael Caine just has the voice for the narration of heists that have gone down in our history books. If I ever pulled one off I sure would want him to narrate the story..maybe along with Mr.Freeman. The episodes are good to the point and give you a good overview of everything that took place. Easy to follow and understand and I enjoy them and they've made my workdays all the more bearable..

Amazing

Absolutely phenomenal. The way its narrated, the interviews, the set up, the music. Its all perfectly done. The crown jewel is Michael Cain. Who better to narrate then the original Italian job? Mr. Cain is outstanding in this production.

Great

I’ve seen Michael Caine in lots of highly intense movies. He reads Heist like he’s telling a story of one his movies. Production level is a 10. Michael Caine had to read this. He has the perfect voice for narration. And of course the stories will definitely keep you listening.

Stop with the music

This is the second time that music has ruined it for me. When I purchase or download an audiobook, my expectations are to get a professional reading of the book. Adding crappy, half-baked music certainly adds nothing and in fact subtracts. The other book that did that (but even worse) was Battlefield Earth. Same outcome

I really don't know what the producers are thinking. Please STOP WITH THE MUSIC

Terrible Music Ruins It

The amateurish music choices ruin an interesting story with great narration. Not only is the music constant and loud, but it's invariably the most obvious, unimaginative choice possible. Are we talking about a break-in? Bring on the knockoff Pink Panther theme!

The overall effect is like trying to listen to a podcast while a TV is blaring in another room.

Why are heists so captivating?

Why are heists so captivating? I can wax philosophical about movies of all genres all day long but few will just make me sit down and shut up like a good smart heist. The inimitable Michael Caine brings all that drama, along with his glorious self, to these true crime stories. I wish this series were at least twice as long.
