Summary

Ever since she was a little girl, 30-year-old Rose dreamed of the day Harley would carry her across the threshold on their honeymoon. So what if this isn't her actual wedding day, and that she's only here because Harley was left at the altar just a few hours earlier?

Trading San Francisco for paradise and swapping her bridesmaid's bouquet for a Blue Hawaii, Rose hopes she can finally escape the friend zone.

Once upon a time they had been more than friends, but life got in the way. She's spent every day since wishing Harley would get a clue.

She's always been his best friend.

He's always been hers.

She's in love with him.

He's...not in love with her.

He's...marrying someone else.

He's...hiding something.

He's...well - it's complicated.

if u ever need a good cry

I read this book when it first came out. And it ripped my heart out, stomped it to a million pieces and left it bleeding on the ground. It took me some time to finde it again, to finde me again. I dont think i ever did.
Then i braved myself to listen. It is always more intense to listen. And god dammit Carmen. I love you and your books. But it did it again. even going in prepared. It took me right back to that broken spot again. Nothing is the same after.
So well written, so emotionel, so heartbreaking. But oh so good.

Tissues at the ready!

This book is one of life’s reminders to snatch it up with both hands and live it to its fullest. To surround yourself with those you love and not to waste one single second on things that in the end really don’t matter.

Read this if you like dysfunctional relationships and being upset.

The story is pretty good up until the end. Maybe it’s because I’m fed up of cis het men, but I could not stand how some of this went. The spicy scenes were good, and I did get a tear in the eye a couple of times, but I’m left feeling somewhat peeved.

Deep story, made me cry

I had a feeling I knew what was coming, and still cried and cried. I was kinda mad for not finding in the reviews if it had a happy ending, because I usually only go for happy ending stories. So for whoever comes afer me: I would not say it is a very happy ending. No fairytale. Yet it shows life in a way I can accept and dont feel bad after finishing this audiobook. Definitely for adults. Has sex and also there are deep things one has to be mature enough to read.

Drama not Romance!

I found this story when looking for random romantic erotica in Audible. I normally HATE first-person books, and only took a chance on this one because it was included in my membership. The story is good and the narration is well done, but this is a SAD STORY. I won't spoil the ending because I did not READ the ending. I'm a nurse in real life and I read romance/erotica for light-hearted escape, and when finding this book classified by Audible as a Romance, I took a chance. It was entertaining and enjoyable until it suddenly turned dark and sad like the flipping of a switch. This might be true to real-life. Gads, the medical bits were far TOO REAL. But even if it is ending happily ever after, I can't read it or believe in a recovery/happy ending. It is well written, don't get me wrong, and if you like the sad/dramatic stuff, you will probably like this. Fault in our Stars, the Notebook, stuff like that, I can't stomach. Breaks my heart and I want fun, light-hearted, happily ever after stuff when I'm reading/listening for leisure. These characters are memorable and I am devastated - which is probably the mark of a great author - but even not reading the end, I will be heartbroken and haunted for a long time. I wish, wish, wish I had NEVER listened to this book. I deal with enough tragedy in real-life; this was not an escape. The shift from light-hearted and entertaining to devastating was almost instantaneous - no possible way to see it coming. AUDIBLE - PLEASE CLASSIFY THIS AS A DRAMA, ROMANTIC DRAMA, EROTIC DRAMA, ROMANTIC TRAGEDY, something -ANYTHING other than a Romance!

Ugh...

Fans of Nicolas Sparks may enjoy this. And even though I don't mind hardship in a story, I am still a happy ever after kind of chic. This book's only happy is the child at the end of the story. This book is full of selfish people making each other hurt because they are to afraid to go after what they want and is available to them until it is too late. Yeah...it's that bad. Grab a box of Kleenex for the last two - three chapters.

I'd call this a roman, not erotica

there is less sex is this book than any other erotica I've read or listened to but it's a damn good romance with a lot of steam to keep the reader/listener... warm. from chapter to chapter you're waiting for that sex scene but dispute you still waiting, you aren't complaining about the wait.

Dont like sad endings

Sorry the book was kind of depressing. I read for an escape, not to be sad.

someone should have told me I'd cry my eyes out

this book was amazing... although I hate crying and now I look like a snotty mess. this book broke my heart but it was so good. it should be made in to a movie

It was not at all what I was expecting and to be honest my heart is still broken and I finished this book 3 days ago. I might have to go back and listen to it again, just not sure my heart can take it

HE DIES?? SO ANGRY! A WARNING SHOULD BE GIVEN

Pretty peeved that there wasn’t a warning that this wasn’t a HEA. I do not read books to feel depressed and sad. I invested way too much of my time for the main character to die of cancer. I’ve lived it and I certainly never expected to be reading about it. Not impressed at all.

So SAD

No HEA here. A well spun story that will truly make you feel heartbreak and grief.

Emotional and Kept my interest

I really enjoyed this story, very emotional. Not a happy ending, but one that had closure. Would love to hear the same story from Harley's view.

More tears, more joy, more love

What did you love best about Harley & Rose?

Harley and Rose is one of my favourite tear jerkers ever and hearing it in audio didn't change that. Despite being dual narration , Paula Hoffman did an incredible job as both Harley and Rose (and Aaron Abano was great as well) and at no time was I taken out of the story even though a female was doing most of the audio.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Harley & Rose?

This is too hard to answer without spoiling the story. There's so many parts that I love ... you'll just have to listen for yourself to find yours!!

Have you listened to any of Aaron Abano and Paula Hoffman ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Is this a trick question?!?! It's HARLEY AND ROSE!!! The entire book moved me but the last few chapters of the book (last hour and half in audio) had me openly sobbing. But again - no spoilers!!

Any additional comments?

I wasn't sure how I would go listening to Harley and Rose after I fell in love with the book. But I can safely say that I loved the audio just as much as the book. It had the same feeling, brought about all the same emotions and was a great way to revisit this story and this couple - even if I shed way more tears yet again!!

wish there had been a review before i bought

i hate not being able to fully get into a story. harley & rose was one of them. the narration wasn't any help either but it just... it was weak and every other chapter is a flashback which i skipped through most of because it was more irritating than interesting. very angst driven from start to finish.
