Summary

Being a mum is an incredible journey, a remarkable experience that changes how we look, how we feel, who we are. As mothers we are strong, protective and proud. We feel a love like no other.

But being a parent can be hard, too. It challenges us physically, mentally, emotionally. There are the days where just managing to fit a shower in amidst the endless feeding, entertaining young children and surviving on a lack of sleep feels like an achievement. With so many people ready to offer 'advice' on the best way to parent, it can feel like you are getting it all wrong.

Since Giovanna and her husband, Tom Fletcher, have had their sons, Buzz and Buddy, they have been sharing glimpses of their family life. With an infectiously positive outlook and a happy take on all things mum-related, Giovanna has developed a following of fellow parents and mums-to-be.

This is not an audiobook about how to have the perfect family experience - Gi would be the first to admit she is winging it just as much as the rest of us. Instead it is an honest, upbeat and incredibly personal account of her own experience of having a family.

In Happy Mum, Happy Baby, Giovanna shares her own journey through parenthood, and in doing so she looks at what it is to be a mother today, encourages you to be confident in yourself as a parent and celebrates how putting a focus on being a happy and confident mum can really make for a happy baby.

Not all that helpful...

Was hoping to be inspired but this is really just a personal account of having children from someone who has money and 'stuff.' Clearly a nice woman and a good mum but I found it completely self indulgent and less helpful than I hoped.

Keeps it real

I have loved this book. Giovanna really captured what it is like to be a mum and keeps it real. I loved the humour that she puts into it and would highly recommend it to mums to be and mums.

Was very disappointed

I never finished this book as I didn't find it helpful. There was way too much personal unimportant stuff in it

Not a help book

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book, it made me feel less anxious about getting things wrong or doing things different. It is not however a guide, it is more a story of the authors pregnancy,

One mothers experiences about parenting

I bought this book to prepare for the arrival of our new, first baby. It's an interesting story of a woman's experiences conceiving and raising two boys, however it is not the book that I was looking for. I wanted an instructional book about how to care for a new infant and this book is about one mothers experiences, rather than the guide I was expecting. Not for me but I can see I'm the exception to the rule as the book has good reviews from other parents.

Like having the bestest friend round for coffee

I actually listened to this book and sent Giovanna a direct message on Instagram immediately afterwards. At a particularly challenging point in my own journey of motherhood (my own feelings of guilt and ‘always getting it wrong’) I chose to listen to this book as I have always admired Giovanna and occasionally listened to her podcast of the same title when I’ve managed to steal half an hour for a run. I messaged her to thank her. For writing this book and for it landing in my ears right when I needed to hear those words ‘you are not alone’. Everything I thought I’d been getting wrong, berating myself for every moment I wasn’t perfect and actually, for being completely consumed in my own children and my overwhelming love for them…it’s all normal! And Giovanna tells it in a way that genuinely makes you feel like she’s turned up at your house, ignored the mess, doesn’t care that your hair is in a permanent messy bun and made you a brew. I loved it. Thank you Giovanna.

A must for new mums!!!

I decided to get this book to keep me company during the night feeds with my five week old baby. I was a little reluctant at first as I had already read many many parenting books whilst pregnant. However, this book is different to anything I read previously. It made me laugh and it made me cry, but most of all it made me feel like I was doing a good job. This book is like a warm hug. Thank you G x

Loved every chapter!

I am a first time expectant mum. This was a fantastic listen and read beautifully by a very clearly passionate mum, makes me excited to start my journey.

Amazing! 2 kids on and this book has been my guide

I brought this book when I had my 1st, 2 years ago just after the pandemic. G made me feel so calm in my parenting and with a reflux baby I needed that.
Then listening again just after having my 2nd.
2, you’ve helped me gain that newborn confidence I once had 2 years ago but then also helped me remember that yes, newborns cry a lot! And it’s ok.

Thank you x
