Summary

The real story behind Dame Edna, the international superstar!

Written by the legendary Barry Humphries himself.

'I'm suing!!' Dame Edna Everage

'Humphries is Australia's John Betjeman' Mail on Sunday

In this unauthorised biography of Dame Edna Everage, acquired for an unprecedented advance and in spectacular secrecy, her long-time manager and the man who was there from the very beginning, Barry Humphries, takes a behind-the-scenes, no-holds-barred look at an icon of our times.

Superstar, swami, confidante and advisor to royalty, Hollywood stars and international political leaders, Dame Edna's life has catapulted her from her humble Moonee Ponds beginnings as a suburban housewife to the most elite social and artistic circles in the world. Who would have thought that this modest Australian woman could achieve so much from London to Louisiana to New York to Tokyo? Who could have anticipated her global fame? Barry Humphries certainly didn't.

Dame Edna will not like this book but Barry knows everything - the who, the why and the where - and in this much-anticipated work he will, for the first time, reveal all. This exhaustively researched account of Edna's roller-coaster life will surely dominate the bestsellers lists. Essential reading for scholars, female achievers, fans of Dame Edna and those who feel that behind the fairytale career lies a darker and more sinister story.

Witty and amusing book

I love Dame Edna and I think this book is a must listen to for all her fans. She is an icon of this age, and Barry leaves no stone unturned... I laughed and laughed!! I have the actual book and loved listening to BH and the voice of the Dame.

Absolutley hilarious!

I loved this book and was crying laughing a certain points throughout. Very witily writen and a absolute pleasure from start to finish. It is far and away the best audio book I have bought so far. Barry Humphries narration makes it. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Wickedly humorous

Fabulous tale of Dame Edna, narrated by her ‘manager’.
Barry Humphries speaks of his trials and tribulations with his alter ego with great humour, frustration and affection. Made me laugh out loud…Wish the book was longer!

Not a very good epitaph for Barry Humphries, sadly

Barry Humphries in all his guises was an extremely funny human being, unfortunately
this story is NOT funny whatsoever. This is not what I expected to write, but the story lack continuity and lacks that great man's humour.
For Bless Barry Humphries, he was extremely funny and very knowledgeable. We will all miss him.
