Summary

In God’s Generals, Roberts Liardon will help you recapture God’s glory with compelling spiritual biographies of some of the most powerful ministries to ever ignite the fires of revival. Liardon faithfully chronicles their lives in this work, along with their teachings, and their spiritual discoveries.

Four of God’s generals who you will meet include:

  • William J. Seymour, the son of ex-slaves, who turned a tiny horse stable on Azusa Street, Los Angeles, into an internationally famous center of revival
  • Aimee Semple McPherson, the glamourous and flamboyant founder of the Foursquare Church and the nation’s first Christian radio station
  • Smith Wigglesworth, the plumber who read no book but the Bible - and raised the dead
  • Kathryn Kuhlman, the beloved evangelist whose miracle-filled meetings drew millions of skeptics to faith...and you will meet eight more "Generals" who dynamically demonstrated the Holy Spirit's power

Liardon also draws crucial life applications for you from the lives of these mighty warriors. God's Generals will help you learn to obey the spirit's leading in every area of your life - and keep your ministry powerful and successful! You can gain the victory in your life and ministry. Let God's Generals show you how!

Great book, narration a little difficult to flow with

This is a great introduction to charismatic church history. When the author gives his thoughts on each person and their ministry it feels a little self indulgent and not always objective. However, I think this is a great introduction to this subject matter.

Not a history book for church archives

It’s been a great journey with this book. Amazing stories and testimonies of how God used ordinary men and women mightily. If he did then, I believe he can and will do it again now through the vessels that are totally yielded.

A must listen if you're called in ministry

Absolutely loved it! Very encouraging and refreshing to hear the cost God's General paid if you feel call of God on your life. Clear cut basic instructional life lessons how to succeed and avoid pitfalls in ministry. Will listen again and make notes.

Inspiring and insightful

I love how Roberts Liardon framed the good, the bad, and the ugly of these revivalists’ lives. It was clear that his goal was neither to glorify nor condemn any of them, but to honor what God accomplished through them. It left me feeling like God could do those things again through me, or anyone who is willing and pure in heart.

Ordinary Men and Women

Robert’s Liardon takes the reader deep into the lives of Gods Generals. The difference in their life’s that catapulted them into ministry is often a drive to walk in the supernatural and presence of God.
All were ordinary people who answered Gods calling on their life. Liardon chronicles their successes and some, their failures. Liardon moves the reader to a point of answering the call to evangelize and heal people.

Voice

I have listened to each of the available God’s Generals books. The narrator of this volume does not compare to the others. He over empathizes nearly every word and feels very unnatural.

Narrator sounds like a machine.

The narrator doesn’t sound human. He is monotonous and mechanical. I can’t recommend any books read by him.

Experience Teaches Wisdom

I love and appreciate sharing the experiences of these generals. Experiences certainly teach wisdom, even someone else's.
Thank you Roberts.
