Summary

Jadie never spoke. She never laughed, or cried, or uttered any sound. Despite efforts to reach her, Jadie remained locked in her own troubled world - until one remarkable teacher persuaded her to break her self-imposed silence. Nothing in all of Torey Hayden's experience could have prepared her for the shock of what Jadie told her - a story too horrendous for Torey's professional colleagues to acknowledge. Yet a little girl was living in a nightmare, and Torey Hayden responded in the only way she knew how - with courage, compassion, and dedication - demonstrating once again the tremendous power of love and the resilience of the human spirit.

Impressive voice acting

Intriguing, heart wrenching and very truthful account of a young girl in desperate need of help. Beautifully narrated and the story draws you in. One of my favourite audiobooks

Truly excellent

To be fair when talking about ghost girl, I am not sure you can really say that you enjoy reading it, there are so many elements of Jadie's life to that point that make for harrowing reading. However, to someone who works with disturbed children (or, when I first read it, thinks they want to) it's an eye-opener. It's the sort of case you really don't want to ever encounter in your career.

I can fully understand why Torey has gone on to work with the Samaritans and Childline after she left teaching because her knowledge and experience should not be lost. It can't be wasted while her books are there for us to read and learn from.

I mentioned to a colleague that I was reading one of Torey's books and immediately she mentioned this - Ghost Girl as being the one that most captured her, she is training to be a counsellor for emotionally disturbed children, and she also cites Torey as an influence on her career choices.
