Summary

This unlikely getaway driver never expected to help the mayor escape....

After a six-year absence, Addison Potts is back in Charleston to stir things up. And what better place to make her villainous return than her estranged cousin’s wedding? Only, the nuptials hit a snag when the bride doesn’t show, leaving Addison to play getaway driver for the jilted groom - a groom whose heartbreaking smile and deep, Southern drawl she should not be noticing....

Elijah Montgomery DuPont is the future mayor of Charleston. From his military career to city hall, every detail of his life has been meticulously planned. Until now. His only respite from life’s sudden upheaval is Addison, his new, improbable best friend. She makes him happy. She grounds him. And public disapproval be damned, he’s not willing to give her up. But with an election on the line and public pressure rising, Addison - and the cruel hand of fate - might not give him a choice.

What a wonderful surprise!

Really liked this book. Probably would have given it a solid four stars because of the silly lack of communication issues, but there was great chemistry and the characters were genuinely really good, and the heroine made me laugh loads of times so it got bumped up to 5 stars. The dirty talk was written well and didn’t make me cringe like many books do ..up until the female narrator’s squeaky squealy baby voice for one bit.. but that was over quickly fortunately and the narration was great for the rest of the book. I was totally hooked into the whole story and fully felt like I knew the characters by the end and was rooting for them.

Not as good as the Runaway book

I read this after reading Runaway from the brides point of view and unfortunately didn't enjoy it as much. like other people have commented I struggled with the female narrator during the sex scenes. it was cringeworthy at times and I actually skipped past them. Still an alright read maybe because I enjoyed the other book I was expecting more.

Good Lord! Needs a new female Narrator.....

Reason I only gave performance a one star was due to the female narrator Lori Prince not Joe Hempel. The story was good and entertaining, but the female reader was annoying as hell. I almost couldn’t finish the book because of her voice. The male reader does a good job, making me wish he would’ve read the whole book himself . The female character comes across as a woman who whines and talks in a “baby” voice (umm not sexy at all) during their sex scenes. Her male voice was just horrible and sounded like he was being tortured. The sex scenes were hot, but unfortunately ruined by the female narrators voice...Advice to the author Tessa Bailey, don’t let this female narrator read any other books of yours..

Need new reader

While the story is good and compelling, the female reader is annoying. The male reader does a good job, making me wish the whole book was read by him. The female reader insists on reading her character as a woman who whines or talks in a “baby” voice (thinking it’s sexy???) during the sex scenes. When she speaks for the male it’s in a stereotypical male gruff voice that just sounds stupid! She has pulled the female gender back into the “woe is me” I’m helpless century. Tessa Bailey, don’t let this female narrator pull your story down!

Couldn't stand the baby talk sex scenes.

I wished I had listened to the other reviews on how annoying the female narrator's baby talk in bed was. I can't blame it entirely on the narrator though because clearly the author wants her to talk that way. She refers to it as bratty whining. It kills the sex scenes. Absolutely makes them cringe worthy. Too bad. The story is also not up to Tessa's normal level. Got to say I didn't love the male narrator either. I've heard him before and thought he did a good job but when he tries to put on the Charleston drawl, it just doesn't work. And then, at the very end, the author says that if this book was not for us, just to pretend like we didn't listen to it. But I did listen to it. And I spent a whole credit on it. Wasted a whole credit

Love the story - the smut narration is weird

The story is great, very fun, lots of ups and downs. The only thing I didn’t love is the weird narration of the smut scenes. Addisons voice is v cringe, and Elijah becomes a silent star, which is fine in the bedroom but lack luster in a book.

For sure recommend to a friend.

Skip the first book and Read "Runaway Girl*"

*I mistakenly read the second book of this series, "Runaway Girl," before this one, and "Getaway Girl" was a big letdown comparatively. you could easily skip it and fully understand without any information from this book*

I thought I'd ignore the reviews because I've read (and loved, 5 stars) twelve of Tessa Bailey's books, but I can finish this one. it's not JUST the narrators (I hated both), sadly, it's the writing. I didn't laugh or smile like I usually would and find myself cringing. The story isn't above average and honestly, I feel like I wasted a few hours that I wish I could get back.

LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!! Super spicy rom com!

OK, So I ABSOLUTELY ADORE the story and the male narrator which makes the female narrators parts tolerable. Seriously, between the male narrator and how fantastic this book is, you can just read the female narrators parts in kindle and it's all good. She makes the H sound like an old man and her whiney scene voice definitely pulled me out of the story more than once, but not a huge deal because the male narrator and just the plot itself was so great it completely made up for it :) LOVE THIS BOOK!!!! LOVED THE SPICY SCENES!!! This author is the best!

Terrible female narrator

The female narrator is one of the worst I have ever heard (very annoying). The male narrator was okay. He did a passable southern accent at least, though it wasn’t swoon worthy as the fmc described.

Need a new narrator

I’ve heard really great reviews about the book so I took a chance listening to it rather than reading it and I wish I read it instead. I liked the story but the female narrator’s voice kept me from really enjoying the book. Her weird “whiny/baby” voice she made during the sexy scenes mad it hard to listen too. Whenever she would use her man voice it always sounded like he was being tortured.

The male narrator wasn’t bad, I liked his voice.
Good book, terrible narrator though.
