It's official. I'm 18 and a young woman with endless possibilities, on my way to reunite with my mom in Colorado after five years apart - she had a little weed incident in Nebraska. But I couldn’t have anticipated the death of our beloved team owner, or his estranged daughter, Hannah Strong, inheriting the Boston Tomcats. She’s stubborn, uptight, infuriating, and wrong about absolutely everything. I can’t stop arguing with her. Or thinking about her. And I don’t want to talk about how good she looks in a skirt. It was four o'clock in the morning. A young woman pushed through the hospital doors. Staff would later say they thought the woman was a new mother, returning to her child - and in a way, she was. She walked into the nursery, where a baby girl lay sleeping. The infant didn't wake when the woman placed her gently in the shopping bag she had brought with her. There is CCTV footage of what happened next, and most Australians would have seen it, either on the internet or the news.

The first time the local basketball star smiled at Elin, she was a goner. It was just so damn easy to fall for the dark-haired hometown hero with his charming smile and strong, athletic build. Thousands of sleepy smiles, aimless drives down country roads, and squeaks of the backdoor after a swing shift later, reality hits. And it hits hard. Falling in love was definitely the easy part. Watching it break apart was impossible.

What an emotional read
- By Kirsty Turner on 05-02-21
Summary
From USA Today and Wall Street Journal best-selling author Jewel E. Ann comes a novel so heartfelt and real it redefines the meaning of love.
I’m the wrong guy in the right place the night I steal Tatum Bradshaw from another man. When she mistakes me for her blind date, I decide she deserves a man who shows up on time...like me. Emmett Riley, Mr. Punctual.
Once I confess my true identity and convince her I’m not a creep - just a thief - it’s only a matter of time before my sexy smile and quick wit claim her heart, her hand in marriage, and the perfect life.
Unfortunately, perfection is an illusion, like the promises of our wedding vows. No one can prepare for the unimaginable - the heartbreaking exception to all the rules in life.
When 30 seconds destroys everything, I have to find a new existence and keep my promise to always love our daughter, Lucy, the most.
For Lucy, I will keep a secret, and I will watch my wife drift into the arms of another man.
Given the chance...can I reclaim my wife and the pieces of our life?

Heartbreakingly honest
Oh my goodness I don’t really know what to say if I’m honest. I finished this book after only a day and a half. I literally couldn’t stop listening to it. This book has everything, it has humour, genuine love, every emotion you could think of and most of all it has pure unfiltered heartbreak.
I was always very weary about starting this book as I knew from previous reviews that it was going to be a tough read. I am so glad I finished it.
Connor Crais narrated the entire book and I honestly could not think of anyone more perfect than him. What he brought to the narration was simply perfection. He dealt with the subject matter with such care and with genuine emotion. His performance was by far one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. He was simply amazing, stunning and totally believable.
The story is so beautiful too. It takes you through Emmett and Tatum’s entire relationship from the very first time they met. You could believe the genuine and true love between the two. Of course this book is about the worst and most tragic thing that any family could ever experience. And my goodness it deals with it so unbelievably well.
I was worried that the book would be too sad or heartbreaking to enjoy but that is not the case. There is so much to enjoy about this book and the tragedy is dealt with so perfectly.
I enjoyed this book and cannot recommend it enough. Connor Crais was absolutely beyond amazing from start to finish.
Jewel E. Ann is an amazing writer and this was one of her best books. She clearly did a lot of work researching the subject and it clearly shows as the book was just perfection. I honestly can’t think of even one negative comment at all about this book. It is worth more than 5 stars.

Beautifully Tragic Story
This story completely broke my heart. Emmett's love for both his wife and daughter drove him to take keeping a promise to the extreme. He truly was an incredible person. The story is told from Emmett's POV so it did make it a little difficult for me to understand the motivations of Tatum, his now ex-wife. Her need to place blame truly made the breakdown of the family that much more awful.
Connor Crais was the perfect narrator for this book. He was incredible and his ability to make the listener feel the pain the characters are going through absolutely elevated this book. I wish I could give more stars.

Almost made me cry
At first I wasn't going to listen to this book because I didn't want to read about an unspeakable tragedy. This is the kind of thing that makes me cry - and I don't cry unless a dog dies. But I decided to listen because I love Jewel E. Ann and I knew I had to do it. I'm so glad I did.
I wasn't blindsided by the tragedy and that made all the difference. am The tragedy is the center of the story but there is so much more to this book. It is about a beautiful romance with a great guy, husband and father who you fall in love with and root for from the beginning to the end of this book. You know he would do anything for his wife and family and he does. He makes a huge sacrifice for Lucy his beloved daughter and you can't help but want to cry for him. You certainly feel angry for him but then you are able to also look at all sides of this when you put yourself in the shoes of all of the characters and not just be an omniscient reader. You realize how you would feel too if this happened to you.
It is heartbreak all around in this book but there is still joy, love, romance and laughter. And because it is a romance there is a HEA but it will take a lot of work and a lot of love to get there.
I'm so glad I listened to this beautiful book.

Heartbreakingly beautiful story
For Lucy is a heartbreakingly beautiful story that will put you through the gamut of emotions, from joy to sorrow. The story of how a family is reshaped after an unimaginable tragedy rips them apart, each dealing with their grief differently. Emmett made a promise to his wife, Tatum, and when put to the test, he'll discover just how much keeping that promise will cost him, especially when he chooses to protect his daughter Lucy. As a parent, this story is relatable and definitely left me thinking.
Connor Crais did a fantastic job narrating each character. This is one of his best narrations IMO.

So Beautiful and Heart Wrenching!
OMG! My heart!! For Lucy, is such the perfect title for this wonderful story. Emmett, Tatum, and Lucy's story is so beautifully written, heart wrenching, and heartwarming afterward. Emmett is such a fantastic character, caring, supportive, and protective. Tatum is a beautiful character. Lucy, their daughter, is a lovely young woman. The storyline is breathtakingly emotional, filled with drama, loss, grief, and love. I love the beautiful and hopeful ending. Connor Crais did an outstanding job with the narration. I enjoyed it, and I HIGHLY recommend it! This is definitely one of my favorite books. I love Jewel E. Ann's writing, she never disappoints.

A raw and real emotional story
I had the pleasure of listening to For Lucy as my first story by Jewel E Ann and I have no doubt she is an Author I will return to. Connor Crais narrated this beautifully tragic love story and I can't think of anyone better for the job, he nailed it!!!
The story is told entirely from the Hero's POV. Emmett is a divorced Father who is still very much in love with his ex wife. We get to experience his feelings as he watches his daughter at the age of 17 and how shared custody effects him and see his wife fall in love with another man. You get the feel early on that something major tore this couple apart but it isn't until a lot further into the book you find out what that was.
What I loved most about this was the skill Jewel had within her writing to tell such a complex emotional story from a single POV. Typically with books like this I feel like I am missing details if I don't get both of the main characters POV's. However here Emmett was so in tune with his ex wife's emotions, he could read her so well, that that element wasn't missing at all for me. Their conversations their behaviour toward each other all portrayed the details I needed to invest in the story.
For Lucy is a stand out beautiful novel that I will recommend to many of my fellow book friends. A raw and real portrayal of a couple that have been through finding love and losing it in more ways than one and how life goes on regardless. How people appear to move on but really they are just wandering waiting for that piece of their soul to return, even if it never does. A story I will 100% listen to again and again.

Perfect
I have no words. This audiobook was so emotional ♥
Emmett was just the sweetest. I loved him from the start. Definitely the perfect husband and father. He would do anything for his daughter. And the relationship they had was just amazing. I didn’t know how I felt about Tatum, all I knew was that Emmett was hopelessly in love with her from the moment he met her. This book was filled with so much angst, so much emotion and healing and love that I am so glad I gave it a shot. I haven’t read a lot of books by this author, but if I had to recommend one then this would be it 😊
The narrator was actually pretty good. Was my first narration by Connor Crais and I loved it, will definitely be searching for more titles by this narrator 😊 ♥

Sensational!
This beautifully heartbreaking story is superbly narrated by Connor Crais.
We mustn't forget though that he only works with the material that is a product of the hugely talented Jewel E Ann. Every single time I read one of her novels, it is completely different from the one before.
When I find an author I love, I enjoy knowing the direction they're likely to take their work but, I find that the predictable unpredictability of Jewel E Ann is refreshingly exciting.
For Lucy is all of these things and more. If you like stories that rip your heart out before serving you a huge packet of paper hankies, this is for you.
Fear not though, For Lucy is absolutely for you if you're a fan of love and forgiveness.

Do not miss this one!
There is always that one book that just tugs on your heart strings. I know when I pick up a book by Jewel E Ann, I have just that, and what a powerful story this one is. Ann masterfully weaves this story with the past and present, never missing a beat. Emmett meets Tatum by chance when she does to a bar for a blind date. Stealing her from her impending boredom, these two are magic together. Now married with children and divorced, Emmett is still totally in love with her, but tragic circumstances have lead to grief and mistrust. But what Tatum doesn't know is that whatever Emmett does is exactly as she asked her to do. Love their children more than her, and Lucy is the recipient of that love. But it doesn't stop there. This story is so much more. It's about tragedy and unrelenting grief, memories and a bond of love never to be broken. I applaud this story, it's message and all the feelings that as a parent as just so incredibly real.
The choice of narrators for such a book is so important. It could change the entire feel of the book. Connor Crais is magnificent as he brings it to us. He keys in on each character, his voice carrying such emotions that the tissues need to be handy. He throws undying love into the mix that fills our hearts and gives us a listen that is easily in my top ten of the year.

Right now, my words can't describe just how much I loved this book. How much I needed a story such as this. Maybe when I read it for the second or third time, better words (and review) will come to me. For now I'm just happy I got to experience it. It's been awhile since I read or in this case listened to such an amazing story. One that captured my heart and held on and will continue to hold on for what I'm sure will be a long time to come. A job well done by Connor on narration. He has an great voice. And as usual, Jewel hit it out of the park by delivering us such a touching and memorable story.

Deeply emotional story!
GAH!! This is by far Jewel E. Ann’s best writing to date. It is also a top read of 2021 for me! This is tragic, beautiful, heartbreaking and ALL CONSUMING. The moment I started listening there was no chance of stopping. I became so engrossed in the characters, their lives, their pain, and all they endured. This is not only a second chance love story but a story of how one moment can change the course of your life forever and no two people deserved a happy ending like Emmett and Tatum. I will be the first one to say that second chance stories are not always my favourite. I fear too much time will be spent in the past to take away from the characters they are in the present, but with this story Jewel E. Ann transitions perfectly between past and present and the way the story is told it was absolutely necessary to get the full impact and timeline. This story is heart wrenching, the amount of times I had tears streaking down my faces were endless but there were moments of beauty as well. Especially between Emmett and Lucy. His love for his daughter is awe-inspiring. I did struggle with Tatum for some of the story, it is 100 percent evident that Emmett’s love for his wife never wavered but I could not say the same for Tatum. However, at the end of the day, there is no right or wrong way to grieve and that was what made this a unique and relatable story is how real and raw the depth of emotion the story takes you on.
Connor Crais is quickly becoming a new favourite narrator. The depth of emotion and journey he takes you on in his performance is OUTSTANDING! This is most definitely his best work to date. The way he tapped into the emotions of the characters was so raw and beautiful! Fantastic job!!

gut wrenching healing
WOW!!!! Such a raw, emotional, gritty story that broke my heart into a million pieces. This is the first book I have read of this author's and OMG I am truly gutted, cried pretty much from cover to cover. This is a story of the ultimate love. This book is spectacularly written. I felt every emotion Emmett, Tatum and Lucy felt throughout the span of this book. Despite the heartbreak of the book, please know it is a story of healing. How the love between parent and child as well as husband and wife can be challenged in the most unthinkable ways, can heal a persons soul. Despite all the tears and emotion, this book is a MUST READ. I can not describe how wonderfully written it is. Connor Crais did a phenomenal job narrating this book.

🔸️🔸️ just...WOW! 🔸️🔸️
This is another emotionally moving book by Jewel E Ann. It's a heartwrenching love story that had me in tears so many times. I LOVED every page. JEA will always be one of my FAV authors and her stories are original and almost always pull at my heart. I hadn't listened to any books narrated by Connor Crais but I was pleasantly surprised. Great job on his selection, he was perfect for this book.

One of the best books…
I’ve read/listened to hundreds of books. I’ve reviewed only a few. But I knew halfway through this book that I would have to review it. It is one of the best books I’ve listened to in a long time.
Admittedly, at first I was reluctant to purchase it based on the book’s synopsis because it indicated the book contained sensitive material. Although I knew parts of the book might be emotional, I counted on it not ending on a sad note based on the reviews. I was not disappointed.
I usually debate with myself whether a book deserves one of my Audible credits. In my opinion, though, this book deserved more than one credit.
Connor Crais did a phenomenal job narrating. I usually prefer both a male narrator and a female narrator to read a book, but Connor did an excellent job. (I now want to look up every book he has narrated and every book written by Jewel E. Ann.)
For those of you who might wonder whether you should stop reading due to the subject matter, I would encourage you to stick with it. This book has something for everyone. Very moving, VERY well written, and with incredible narration.

Now my TOP Favorite of Connor Crais and 2021
I really enjoyed spending the last two day's listening to this incredible story. Tatum and Emmitt are on a journey and happy that I went on the roller coaster ride of emotions. Like that Connor was the solo narrator for this project. It was heartbreaking but that is what I loved about the story.
