A hard slog
Having read the reviews I decided to persevere and try this book for the second time as I'd previously enjoyed DCI Lapsie's books and I don't like 'missing ' one from the series. Thing get better after chapter 12! and in the end turned out to be a decent book although I did find it a hard slog. I'll now download the next installment and see how that fares, hopefully better.

DCI Mark Lapslie book 5
DCI Mark Lapslie is a detective in Essex who has synaesthesia.
This book is slightly different form the others in the series as it has numerous flashback scenes that seem to make it dis-jointed.
Lapslie has an unpleasant experience when giving evidence in a murder trial and the defendant ends up being acquitted. Then another similar murder occurs.
Young boys are being kidnapped, disfigured and murdered. How are the cases linked and can Lapslie and his team solve the case.

Much too busy
After listening to Scream and the Thirteenth Coffin I was quite looking forward to this one, but found it very confusing and disjointed, it lurched from one character,era and area seamlessly that I kept having to go back to check to see if I had dozed off and missed something. It bounces around all over the place even the narrator was left behind several times unable to keep up with the changes.
It gets rather boring having to hear about what flavours Lapsie's tasting every step of the way due to his Synesthesia, frankly I dont give two hoots, it distracts from the story, he has this disability and we know about it but its bashed to death, being referred to all the time.
The story line is lacking in substance and even though this is pure fiction, it just doesn't flow with any story line that you cant second guess if you can actually figure out whats going on. I wont be reading/listening to anymore of Nigel McCrerys again.
