Summary

Whether it is through our parents, our education, our bosses, our colleagues or the media we consume, we are constantly told that being humble is essential to our professional success. It's often seen as distasteful or arrogant to shout about our achievements. But in a modern workplace, where the conventional, steady, linear career path is becoming rarer and rarer, this advice seems ever-more obsolete. In the age of flexible working and portfolio careers, it's time to f--k being humble.

With simple exercises, steps and real-life examples, this is a resource that you can come back to again and again, at any point in your career. Learn how to:

  • Know what you stand for
  • Stop hiding (even when you don't realise you are)
  • Fully realise the power of networking
  • Know your self-worth
  • Play the money game and win
  • Manage your emotions at work
  • Take action and establish the right time to make the leap
  • Keep the momentum you've generated going and maintain that elusive work-life balance

Get ready to start taking charge of your own success.

Helpful for early career women

Helpful confidence boosting advice for young women, but if any older than mid 20s parts are a bit cringe and basic. However I still enjoyed the book, it doesn't say anything ground breaking but was like listening to a friend remind you of what you should be doing to boost your professional profile. An easy listen, would recommend to those in similar positions to myself, lacking in confidence and not sure where to start starting creative freelance work, it's a good starting point

Awesome!

Clear with lots of actionable advise, easy to listen to, not too long, not too short. A very enjoyable audiobook. Great job Stef!

Inspiring, relatable, motivating.

A super easy listen, making topics that are usually uncomfortable, feel more relatable than ever and manageable to deal with. One of my favourites…if not favourite read this year!

Just brilliant

Very listenable. Full of brilliant advice that we all need telling from time to time. It’s a bit like getting advice from a good, kind and wise friend. I’m older than the audience I think it’s aimed at but it still really hit the spot. Excellent listen; thank you.

An excellent listen! Highly recommend

What an insightful audiobook! I’ve really enjoyed listening to Stephanie narrate her word from paper to audio. She brings a powerful energy to a very relevant subject.

As a creative director working freelance in London I can’t begin to say how helpful and empowering her words have been. Since starting this book I have attended a webinar she was hosting with some of the individuals that were quoted in the book and it only reaffirmed her points.

It’s current, it’s funny, it’s insightful and it’s important for anyone looking for some more confidence in the workplace and out.

Thank you! Looking forward to more events and maybe one day a sequel?

Take up space! Unapologetically

Loved this audiobook especially as it narrated by the author. It gives lots of practical tools & evidence to support why we are systematically silenced & persuaded to stay small. It will leave you feeling empowered to take action.

Waste of time for anyone over 5 years in their career

Would not recommend to anyone 5+ years in their careers. I wish I’d listened to one of the reviews I read about this book only being useful for those with zero confidence. There weren’t any new insights or practical steps about self promotion. Too much repetition of long standing quotes like “fake it until you make it” and “do what you love and the money will follow”. Some of the humour was a bit cringe too (again, most suited to anyone under 25). A shame really as I think the author’s career is impressive and could have added new insights. Personally, the book was a waste of my time and I highly recommend updating the summary of the book to reflect this book suits anyone very early on in their career.
