Summary

The Sunday Times bestselling series is back. Eve Dallas is investigating the murder of a much-loved actor at a glittering party. The spotlight has never been brighter. Or deadlier...

It was a glittering event full of A-listers, hosted by Eliza Lane and Brant Fitzhugh, the most glittering of all celebrity couples. Everyone had expected the party to be in the newspapers the next day but not because one of the hosts was murdered! As the crowd had gathered to watch Eliza sing, Fitzhugh had raised a final toast to his glamorous wife and fallen to the floor. Death by cyanide poisoning. It's time for Lt. Eve Dallas to make her entrance.

From all accounts, Fitzhugh wasn't the kind of star who made enemies. Eliza, on the other hand, had many rivals, and a few of them could class as enemies. Since the champagne cocktail that killed Brant was originally intended for Eliza, could it be that she was the real target?

With so many people at the party, Eve has her work cut out determining who could commit murder in the middle of a crowd. As one who's not fond of the spotlight, she dreads the media circus surrounding a case like this. All she wants is to figure out who's truly innocent, and who's only acting that way...

Ok but not as good as other Eve Dallas stories

This was OK… but I found it a bit samey….
Halfway through I knew who the culprit was going to be… usually her plots keeps me guessing.
In the end I think it’s just a bit meh…
The real test? I listen to her books more than once..often several times….I won’t bother with this one.

Another great book

It doesn’t matter how many books I read in the series, I enjoy every every single one.
Love Susan Ericsson’s narration of this theatre based murder mystery

Another excellent story

I’ve listened to or read every episode in this series. The main characters have developed into more rounded personalities, although I find Dallas’ continuing dislike of her spousal wealth, parties, gift buying and normal obligations of marriage and friendship irritating in the extreme. Having said that, this was pretty much a straightforward murder story which I enjoyed very much. Ms Ericksen is also an excellent narrator. I highly recommend this series.

Seriously, don't waste a credit

I had to return it. Awful narration including one of the worst Irish accents I've ever heard and embarrassingly cringe sex scene. Felt like the author had badly ripped off The Mirror Cracked by Agatha Christie and set it in the future in a really stupid way. Save your credit for something better.

Just love the In Death Series

Another great book on the series, I love all the characters and their continuing storylines moving along in the background. Can’t wait for Peabody and McNab to move into their new place !

Netflix,Apple,Amazon prime etc

Whomever is in charge of adapting a book series, get your wallets out and commission the “IN DEATH” series….. yes special effects will play a part in the costing, but come on, it needs picking up!
Get the casting right, use the book’s faithfully and I’m damn sure (as Dallas would say) that Nora Roberts would consult and offer guidance on a series that has surpassed the 50 book mark. So much material, a little romance that aids plots and doesn’t detract from the story. Wake up TV execs and get it done!!!!

Good but not totally surprising

I enjoyed Susan’s narration as always but I guessed where the book was going half way through. However, I am still looking forward to the next one.

I'm a big fan of the series, but this one's meh!

I completely agree with Badfoot43! I've listened to all of the books in the series, some of them several times. There's a handful that I don't bother listening to again, as they're fairly predictable and not so entertaining. "Encore in Death", unfortunately, is now going to be one of them.

Over the course of the series, we've been introduced to and grown to love an entertaining cast of characters, all of whom liven up the story when things might begin to drag. None of them appear in this book. No Trina. No Mavis. None of the family from Ireland.

Usually, the resolution of the story, where the killer is interrogated and bought to justice, provides a gratifying ending. Not so here. Maybe because the identity of the killer just wasn't a surprise. Maybe because the whole 'murder by cyanide' trope has been done a few times in this series already.

Let's just hope that the 57th in the series will be a return to form!

Not one of the best

I found this story somewhat boring and at no stage did it grab me. I am an In Death fan and have read or listened to every one of them. Most I gave enjoyed immensely but not the last couple of books.

Encore in Death

This was another great storyline, loved the mentions of prior cases but am seriously missing the personal story side of things that was so strong in the earlier books. The subtext of Eve growing in her connections to “family” the one she’s created.. the parties, etc. What’s happening with Mira’s family, Mavis and Leonardo’s, Dr Morris and so on.. Yes we’re here for a crime but Eve seems to have stagnated emotionally, with even the donations to the Homicide department treated pretty dryly and matter of fact.. Having Eve’s brilliance shoved down our throats while she begrudges a coffee only goes down with a lavish helping of the colours of the crowd around her.. otherwise Eve’s starting to come of as monochromatic.. and a little up herself.

A really good listen.

The last couple of books have been a touch darker than I normally prefer. Encore in Death harken back to some of my favorites in this series meaning I pretty much listened straight through and am likely to listen too again.
