Summary

Where is God when my suffering seems never-ending? Can I really find joy in this fallen world?

This powerful book confronts these questions with stories of the author's near-death experience, a daughter's suicide attempt, mental illness, and numerous other gripping stories that demonstrate not only that God is present when we need him, but that through our trials we can find true intimacy with him.

Author Randy Kay recounts how, as a former devout agnostic, he survived a near-fatal accident while searching for the truth - and when he met the One he sought to disprove, his journey changed from a life of extreme trials into one of genuine joy. In this book, Kay offers his testimony to show listeners how God uses suffering and brokenness to build an intimate and indestructible relationship with him, while breaking down barriers and ushering the listener into an authentic relationship with the Author of love.

the end was an uncomfortable listen. I mean no disrespect, but it made my skin crawl

I was very interested in the story and I tried to push through the narrative but couldn’t. I too, struggled with the narrator.

fab story, not narrator

I'm sorry, I know it's about the books' message, but the narrator is so irritating (to me). I did habituate to him near the end; luckily it's not a long listen. recommend the book, not the narrator

Healing and Purpose by Denying Self For Jesus

Book Review By Margaret Lukasik

Dying To Meet Jesus, How Encountering Heaven Changed My Life by Randy Kay is a unique and powerful story about the author’s Near Death Experience that brought him into the presence of Jesus.  While in the emergency room his doctor found 5 blood clots, some of which had caused full occlusion of his pulmonary artery. Randy Kay had died! This isn’t a condition most people would choose, yet as Randy relates his time with Jesus, it’s easy to understand why he had no desire to return to his life on earth. The light of Jesus Christ had indelibly pierced Randy’s heart and soul with infinite joy and peace. Randy clung to Jesus, but it wasn’t his time to die.

Because Randy had been an agnostic for most of his adult life makes his story even more profound.  Theoretically he would no longer face his illness or any future difficulties alone because Jesus was now at the helm of his life with healing and victory.  The question is, would his newly found peace and joy last?

Surely one can say that it was easy for him to be close with God, after all, he met Jesus! He was fact to face with Him. While meeting Jesus must have a lasting impact upon one’s life, daily living can wear down a person’s resolve to follow Jesus and keep in step with the Holy Spirit. But this wasn’t the case with Randy.  He shares how we cannot fully relate to God without brokenness or a loss of self to follow Christ. Clearly referenced in his story is his determination to have and keep an intimate relationship with God and to help others do the same. He isn’t telling his story to share his experience without a purpose.  He is using it to bring about the fulfillment of Jesus Christ in every believer and to use his testimony to win unbelievers to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and life eternal with God.

Dying To Meet Jesus shares with Christians how to get on the path with God to see Him as a loving Father, to live one’s salvation, to understand why we should pray and why we must allow the Holy Spirit to pray through us, and to discover and develop life purpose by waiting upon God.  He also demonstrates how to overcome the negative memories that keep us from living God’s best and much more. Randy breaks down this information in detail to bring healing and recovery.

Randy’s credibility for teaching and helping others make positive changes in their lives spans many years with his leadership experience as the CEO of two companies, PACEsetters, a human development firm, and TenorCorp, a strategic development firm.  He reaches out to people from all walks of life through articles, books, television appearances and radio programming. Although I’ve never met him, I can feel his gracious and loving character through his writing that says, I care about you and love you. It’s a warm feeling because I know Randy’s Words are backed with Christ’s love. Dying to meet Jesus is an extraordinary book that takes one on a journey of love, healing and purpose.

The message hit home, the narrator was a bit bland

Narrator was my struggle; monotone and I imagine him being the complete opposite of the author's character. Story was good and valuable to all.

This is a collection of religious sermons, little about subject on cover

Heavy on the lecturing. I am Christian so it is not that fact that bothers me...it's the fact that 25% of book was about afterlife in my opinion. Very sparse on facts , heavy on religious fervor.

Excellent book and message. Awful narrator

I felt like the narrator was a literal robot it felt at times like Siri was reading. That’s too bad because the book itself and message are excellent. Just the narration was cold and detached. The narrator clearly didn’t feel or believe anything he read.

Still just had to keep that in my mind while I read it because it was worth the listen despite that. If the author has read it instead of would be better in my opinion. I’m still pretty convinced it was a robot that’s how bad. And for s touching story in extremely sensitive descriptions it made me sad to listen to the robot describe it. Like the story deserves better.

They should remake it with a better narrator

Inspiring Testimony

This was one of the most beautiful testimonies I’ve heard! Randy shares his story on a very real level and is sure to inspire many others who go through the challenges of life.

Excellent book

Inspired first by deaths of close friends and family members, then by John Burke’s fantastic and well documented book on near death experiences, I sought to learn more about the afterlife, hence read this book.

Randy does not spend a lot of time on his actual NDE, but enough. He relates to and explains the reason for pain in the world, including physical and mental anguish with real examples, and sets the reader on the path to healing and or hope.

His NDE is super interesting! It is consistent with what we know of Heaven, according to the Bible, and shares commonalities with hundreds (thousands?) of others.

The book is insightful and educational. I highly recommend.
