Summary

Suspenseful, frightening, and sometimes howlingly funny, a story of invasion and battle, survival and heroism. It is a story of how men remember ... and how they love.

In Derry, Maine, four young boys once stood together and did a brave thing. Something that changed them in ways they hardly understand.

A quarter of a century later, the boys are men who have gone their separate ways. Though they still get together once a year, to go hunting in the north woods of Maine. But this time is different. This time a man comes stumbling into their camp, lost, disoriented and muttering about lights in the sky.

Before long, these old friends will be plunged into the most remarkable events of their lives as they struggle with a terrible creature from another world. Their only chance of survival is locked in their shared past - and in the Dreamcatcher.

Scify fest

Where does Dreamcatcher rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's a reasonable listen but not I think one of Stephen Kings best efforts.

If you’ve listened to books by Stephen King before, how does this one compare?

It's not my favourite Book or audio book of Stephen King.

Any additional comments?

This is a Scify fest, with elements borrowed from Stephen Kings other work and lots of other popular Scify mediums , notably alien, invasion of the body snatchers and quite a few others, I didn't find it particularly fresh or bringing anything new to the Scify table so was generally disappointed. The performance I must say is excellent, the narrator makes the listening experience enjoyable.

A great story from a great writer not an easy read but well worth the effort.

Completely engulfing. . . An unequivocal master

Completely engulfing. . . An unequivocal master with the overwhelming ability to take your mind through a smooth roller coaster of a pickle of genres. . . Narrated beautifully, encapsulating the inner essence and personality of every character with deep intensity and gentle purity.

Dwindles out at the end.

This book has many of the classic King hallmarks, especially the group of friends whose backstory is gradually filled in as the story proceeds. The return to Derry is also a welcome boon for fans of It, while the narration is on point. Unfortunately, the whole thing just does not come together in the same manner as King's other, similar tales, so the ending is both unclear and underwhelming. It's a lovely journey for most of the story but, ultimately, it just does not end up going anywhere exciting.

Great narration to a very good story

There are some fantastic characters in this book and there is sensitivity around one character especially which I found different and very enjoyable. I thought Kurtz was narrated really well and I could see him in my minds eye. There are a few loose ends throughout but that didn’t take away from my enjoyment. It was great to go back to Derry and hear the references to other King characters who had lived there. There is even a Dearborn street! Listen to this, you will enjoy it.

Another great one

His style of writing, the way he takes you into the characters thoughts, the sheer humanity and reality of said characters is still, after I don’t know how many of his books I have read, the impetus to pick up another one.
He never fails and he hasn’t this time either. Another page turning mind gripper from the start, narrated brilliantly. Enjoy!

Great book

For some reason this book isn't very well received but I love it. I think the story is great, some really good characters and the narration was excellent. Yet again another fantastic villain written by King and the accents were done very well. I wouldn't put it up there with his best but I'd highly recommend this one.
