Summary

You don't know him. But he knows you.

Soon he would be able to touch her, to feel the warmth of her blood. And when the time came, nothing would stop him.

As DC Jennifer Knight investigates a routine stabbing in the quiet town of Haven, she is shocked by what seems like a personal message from beyond the grave.

When more bodies are found, Jennifer is convinced the killings are somehow linked. What she discovers is more chilling than she could possibly imagine. The murders mirror those of the notorious Grim Reaper - from over 20 years ago. A killer her mother helped convict.

Jennifer can no longer ignore the personal connection. Is there a copycat killer at work? Was the wrong man convicted? Or is there something more sinister at play?

With her mother's terrifying legacy spiraling out of control, Jennifer must look into her own dark past in a fight not only to stop a killer - but to save herself and those she loves.

A heart-stopping supernatural thriller to engross fans of Rachel Abbott, Paul Finch, and James Oswald.

Chilling and thrilling.

A fast paced and often terrifying tale. Unlike any crime thrillers you would have read before. The past meets the present in a cleverly woven story which lingers in your memory long after the final chapter.
Looking for something thrilling with a paranormal twist? Look no further. The X Files meets Prime Suspect. Truly looking forward to the next instalment by Caroline Mitchell, she certainly knows how to grab the readers attention.

Terrible narration

This could have been a good listen but the narration was robotic and with little intonation required for depth and characterisation. What a disappointment for the author and I wonder if she had any hand in the chosing of her narrator? Satisfyingly creepy but after sticking with it for a good few hours, I just couldn't continue so skipped through to the end - and had missed far too much to understand just what had happened. Would be happy to try another novel by Ms Mitchell but not if it is read by this narrator.

Interesting

Interesting take on a crime detective plot but sadly the narrator spoke the characters mainly in indistinguishable voices. Very monotonous Hope the author finds different narrator for her future books ?????

Waste of good reading time.....

I have listened to many books. Weak narrative and extremely poor narration. I don't leave a story but this was hard going.

Satisfyingly Creepy

Definitely gave me the heebie-jeebies in places, which is what I look for in a paranormal crime book. The story was good, all be it a touch cliched and predictable occasionally. The involvement of a wee gee board and tarot cards was disappointing. The narration was okay, I ended up listening to it in double time however because it was too slow for my taste. The Irish accent was entertainingly awful! Overall it was a good start to a series with potential, I will read the next instalment.

Great supernatural thriller

I just can’t get enough of Caroline Mitchell books, I love every series, I may of accidentally listened to book two before one but it just gave me a bit of back story on the main character.
Pretty cool thrill ride through out the book, there were some times I constantly checked out my rear mirror while driving home in the dark! Loved every minute and off to start book 3 now 😊

Fantastic New Dectective Series

I love a whodunit. This book had me guessing every step of the way and the ending was something I didn't see coming. I am hoping that Audible will include the 2nd book in this series (for some reason only the first and third volumes are on Audible).

I'm addicted and hope to listen to more of this author's wonderful story telling.

Emma Newman was excellent as a reader as well. Highly recommend!

A page turner

If you could sum up Don't Turn Around in three words, what would they be?

Good character development

Who was your favorite character and why?

Will. He was steady and he tried

Have you listened to any of Emma Newman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I have no idea

Any additional comments?

I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. The characters are relatable. The author makes you care about them.

Never again

I was disappointed in this book. I did not realize it was going to be about the paranormal. Not my kind of read. I did finish it but don't plan to listen to the next in the series. Narration was great. Story is a little farfetched.

Great twist on my favorites - serial killers

I was a bit hesitant when I realized there was a paranormal element to this novel. the author does a brilliant job of bringing the demon into modern day England and a contemporary story, without losing our faith. really well done.

Paranormal surprise

I hadn't the slightest idea that this was going to be a paranormal detective story, but must say that it got better as it went on, making me jump at noises more than once. Without giving away too much, our villain is a bit like the one in "Fallen" with Denzel Washington, and the setup for the series to come has a ring of Mulder and Scully to it. The series has great possibilities, so keeping fingers I'm going to move right on to the next one.

intriguing but frustrating

the main character didn't follow through at obvious times she should. that was frustrating. if she had persisted, like the strong person, we hoped she was, she would have gathered more info. I hate knowing more about the character than the the author thinks I should.

Look Inside.....

What made the experience of listening to Don't Turn Around the most enjoyable?

The way the author switched back and forth between times/ years. I always like that.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Frank definitely, especially when he was a boy!

Which scene was your favorite?

In th boathouse, (probably like most of the readers will!)

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"The Grim Reaper"

Any additional comments?

The book started off slow, and actually really didn't get my full attention until 3/4 of the way through, however the ending definitely made up for it. The characters were also very likable.
