Summary

From debut author Chandra Blumberg comes a playful, heartfelt romance about chasing your dreams and finding love in the process.

Alisha Blake works her magic in the kitchen, creating delectable desserts for her grandfather’s restaurant in rural Illinois. Though Alisha relishes the close relationship she has with her family, she can’t help but dream about opening a cookie shop in Chicago. She may be a small-town baker, but Alisha has big ambitions.

Then a dinosaur bone turns up in her grandparents’ backyard. When paleontologist Quentin Harris arrives to see the discovery for himself, he’s hoping that the fossil will distract him from a recent painful breakup. Instead, he finds Alisha - and sparks fly. The big-city academic and the hometown baker seem destined for a happily-ever-after.

But Alisha is scared to fall in love. And Quentin’s trying to make a name for himself in a competitive field, which gets even more complicated when the press shows up at the dig site. For love to prevail, the two may have to put old bones aside - and focus on the future.

Critic reviews

“In alternating chapters, Keylor Leigh and Amir Abdullah offer engaging narration, his sonorous tone contrasting nicely with her animated one. Alisha and Quentin's dynamic is captured particularly well when they banter via text, and Leigh and Abdullah trade off narration in real-time to capture the pair's flirty interplay. A unique premise and game narrators make this a charming, dino-mite listen.”Booklist

“Alisha's voice is midrange with bell-like undertones, and [Keylor] Leigh captures the guilt that keeps her working at her family's local barbecue restaurant. Leigh also creates unique voices for Alisha's family and friends.... [Amir] Abdullah gives Quentin a boisterous voice. Leigh and Abdullah capture the fun banter Alisha and Quentin throw down as they fall in love. Abdullah also delineates Quentin's family with different voices.”AudioFile Magazine

“Blumberg’s charming debut combines true love, delicious cookies, and dinosaurs…fans will adore the well-drawn love story between these funny and lovable dinosaur lovers.”Publishers Weekly

Enjoyable listen

I loved the narrators!! They do a fantastic job and really get into the characters!
The story itself, I wanted to like more. It’s a sweet read, though the self induced angst didn’t make me like it. The beginning was interesting, but I kept waiting for more to the story. And I didn’t think the story ever got where I wanted until a bunch of self induced problem were finally solved. I did like the ending; it was adorable!!

A good listen

I enjoyed listening to this book but it was a little slow at times and drawn out. I enjoyed the concept and the love story but I don't think it needed to be this long. But I must say the narrator's did a great job bringing this book to life.

grrrrrrrrrrrr!

I can't even get 15 minutes in!!! thus has nothing to do with race!!!! but, you can't have a non-Africian American attempt to adequately deliver a storyline based on black people... I can't even take this seriously!!!!! so disappointed in a credit losses on this!!!! SMH
