About this listen

Deadly loose ends. Homicidal obsession. A mind-boggling crime locked behind lost memories....

Scotland DCI Harry McNeil feels uneasy about visiting his late father’s dementia-afflicted former colleague. But he’s stunned when the retired policeman’s daughter pulls him aside in the nursing home to offer nervous accusations and shocking photographs. And with the images displaying a murder victim from 20 years ago, McNeil fears the senile detective might be the real serial killer long thought dead and buried.

Unable to pry answers out of the confused senior, McNeil is alarmed to discover fresh bodies in both Glasgow and Edinburgh linked to the decades-old case. And with the slayings so intimately connected to him personally, McNeil believes it’s only a matter of time before he’s caught in the crosshairs, and he doesn’t know why.

Will McNeil expose a murderous hidden agenda before it costs him his life? Devil to Pay is the harrowing sixth book in the DCI Harry McNeil mystery series.

another unforseen twist

right at the end, as usual, but they are what makes these books fantastic to listen to!

Another belter

A nice twisty tale. Would have been funny if Farquhar had taken down the killer with a punch to the nuts, haha. Terrific narration by Angus King with his multiple accents.

Brilliant

Between John Carson and Angus Monteith this is another great book in the series. The story has everything you could wish for in a book. My only complaint is that there are 18 books in the series and yet we get them spoon fed to us when it suits audible. You can get them on kindle but this is not suitable for me. Beside this I am waiting for the next Melrose of this series.

Superb

Towards the end you think you know those doing the killings-you wont. Superb plot. The narrator is good although if you listen to other Scottish thrilllers you will recognuse all of the voices but like the narrator for LJ Ross if you like the voice - I do!! - then it doesnot detract. The plot does not drag. The characters are being developed so you know you have a series to enjoy.

An excellent listen

Angus King is a great narrator and as always makes the characters and book enjoyable to listen to. John Carson has written about 17 books in the Harry McNeil series so we are at least ten books behind as audible listeners. It would be awesome to get the rest of the books narrated by Angus King as soon as humanly possible please :0)
