Summary

A vicious killer...a race against time.

When two men are found mutilated in Birmingham's gay village just before Christmas, DI Zoe Finch and her team are perplexed. Did their attacker mean to kill one of the men, or simply injure them both? And who would have the surgical skills for such a precise mutilation?

When more bodies are found with the same injuries, the city's gay population is rightfully scared. And then, someone close to Zoe becomes a target.

Can Zoe and her team find the killer before it's too late? And will the new members of the team help crack the case, or make things worse?

Deadly Desires is the third in the Detective Zoe Finch series, described as "superb" by reviewers.

Wow brilliant

Superb book ., always a winner when Jan is narrating and the fact I used to live and work in the area where these books are based , I can close my eyes and follow Zoe on her routes to capture the criminals

Good but gory

Not as keen on number 3 Zoe Finch series as the other two books, probably due to the central themes of mutilation and homophobia. Narration good although Lesley Sharp’s voice is far from how she is portrayed in the later Dorset murder books.

Best one yet

The plot works really well and the relationships are developing. The book shows a good understanding of LGB issues. Tenderly written as well as being an excellent crime novel.

Zoe Number 3 as good as 1&2-but different

It’s all about the characters who are wonderful and awful which is a reflection of life. And of course the story which delves brilliantly into hatred and phobia being confronted by good and belonging. An excellent listen. Thoroughly recommended.

Disappointing part of this series

I’ve been enjoying this series, but not this one-too many gory details for my taste, and I finally abandoned it when a Scottish character appeared, as Jan Cramer, while normally an excellent narrator, does an excruciating and very inaccurate Scottish accent. This is all too common with Audible narrators, sadly-the Welsh one isn’t great either. Hoping the next one will be better, and perhaps not involving kidnapping, as this is becoming a recurring theme.
