Summary

The discovery of a woman's body and a link to the events of 9/11 takes Detective Superintendent Roy Grace around the world in Dead Man's Footsteps, by award winning crime author Peter James.

Amid the tragic mayhem of the morning of 9/11, failed Brighton businessman and ne'er-do-well Ronnie Wilson sees the chance of a lifeline: to shed his debts, disappear and reinvent himself in another country.

Six years later the discovery of the skeletal remains of a woman's body in a storm drain in Brighton leads Roy Grace on an enquiry spanning the globe, and into a desperate race against time to save the life of a woman being hunted down like an animal in the streets and alleys of Brighton.

Although the Roy Grace novels can be listened to in any order, Dead Man's Footsteps is the fourth gripping title in the bestselling series. Enjoy more of the Brighton detective’s investigations with Dead Tomorrow and Dead Like You.

Now a major ITV series, Grace, starring John Simm.

Good story

It’s quite a convoluted tale, jumping back& forth in time but it all comes together in the end.

Slow for Peter James....

Love Peter James books! However I did find this book quite slow. There was also switching between dates etc....Although if you want to make your way through the Roy Grace series then you'll have to read it!

Good story line but spoiled by the narrator

This was my first Peter James, and although I enjoyed the story, it was sometimes quite difficult to follow with the jumping back and forth in time. Also the chapters didn't correlate to my iPad, so I couldn't retrace my steps to remind myself who was who.
The narrators voice really annoyed me. Sometime he said sentences in a way that showed he hadn't actually read the paragraphs first and his slight antipodean slant didn't work for me at all until he was actually doing an Australian character in the book.
Would put me off listening to any other book by this narrator.

Entertaining

Well constructed and well paced. Narrator’s female voices are cringeworthy at times, and he repeatedly mispronounced Australian towns, but otherwise he was easy to listen to.

Good story but terrible writing

I've listened to this series in order and one thing that is starting to grate is the amount of descriptive text (particularly relating to the characters' backstories) that is repeated verbatim in each book.
Beyond that, I'm really torn as to whether or not to persevere. The stories are interesting and with good plot lines but, oh dear god, the writing throughout is that of a teenage boy. Any passages to do with romance or sex are especially toe-curling (I very much doubt any woman has ever flirtatiously warned her partner not to get too excited because her dog "likes to chew on hard things" outside the pages of this book).
Such a shame as the story lines are quite novel - but I do think the author should stick to ideas and let someone else craft the text.

Not my usual genre

I just enjoyed it. No fuss, no nightmare, no hassles, just an easy listen. Thank you.

Full of twists and turns.

Loved it. Excellently narrated. Like the final twist at the end. Intriguing edge if seat stuff.

Best one yet

I've arrived at Peter James and the Grace series late I know, but enjoying them a lot and this is the best yet. Good story set-up, I always wondered if any people had actually used 9/11 as an opportunity to disappear themselves, well told. Onto the next one...

Wait... WHAT?!

Twistier than a twisty twisting thing! Listened in just two sittings as I couldn't put it down. Proper pacey listen - so many loose strands eventually pulled into the tightest of plots. The only fly in the ointment was the narrator's inability to pronounce 'Melbourne' - which is a shame as it gets dozens of mentions....
