Summary
In an instant, everything stops. No lights. No phones. No transportation.
When an EMP attack wipes out the nation’s power grid and communications, college freshman Maddie Langston is forced to run for her life.
Stranded in a Chicago airport when the lights go out, Maddie is in a race against time. According to her father, she doesn’t have long before the city descends into chaos. She must leave the airport before it is too late.
The perilous journey out of the city becomes even more complicated when Maddie takes responsibility for an orphaned 10-year-old girl. Together, as chaos fills the streets, they must fight to survive in a Turbulent new world.
Maddie’s brother, Zach, has his own battles to fight as he struggles to get home to his family.
On the road to reunite with Maddie and Zach, Beth’s trip takes a twisted turn, but she won’t let anything prevent her from reaching her children.
Days of Want is a high octane post-apocalyptic EMP thriller series.

Excellent dystopian/survival tale/series
Quite some time ago I read book one in the Days of Want series and promised myself I would read the rest of the series. Well, recently I fulfilled part of that promise when I listened to Kevin Pierce narrating the audiobook for books 1-4 of the series. As far as EMP/dystopian Days of Want contains most of the common elements – EMP, survival etc. However, T.L. Payne humanizes this series with characters who feel like people you know and old friends you haven’t seen in a while. Furthermore, the Langston family children are very believable in their survival abilities since they have all been coached/trained from early ages to be survivors by their Marine/prepper father. I’ll be honest, I think the best way to experience this story/series is to listen to Mr. Pierce as he narrates books 1-4, in fact he does such an awesome job, I’ll be listening to him narrate books 5 & 6 very soon – oh yes once book 7 exists an audiobook I’ll listen to him one more time.

Yawn
Madison and her mother are both neurotic and the belief that a teenage girl is going to be 'more' battle ready than the combat veterans IS hysterically funny. To say that this chick has more organizational/leadership skills and other abilities over her adult companions IS laughable. Talk about a narcissistic personality with hubris! Maria is a believable character as a leader, BUT, those others are psych patients.

Goos listen for the credit
I usually try to *maximize* my credits usage by picking a long books or series. This one was a good listen. The story kept me relatively engaged and they weren’t many instances of “eye-rolling” over impossible situations. Character depth was good, circumstance & situations believable, and overall progressed entertainingly enough to keep me listening. I enjoyed it!

Good book
I don’t understand the foul language comment. I’m on chapter 5 and haven’t heard many vulgar words used. The words used wouldn’t even be considered vulgar by most individuals today. Public television uses much worse.

Excellent store line!
Dance of one series one through four is an excellent book. It also gives a lot of advice about how to prepare for an EMP or loss of power events. All the people in the story are brought to life by the writer. The narrator of the story really does an excellent job.
