Summary
A SERIAL KILLER ON A POISONOUS MISSION PUSHES NIKKI AND HER TEAM TO BREAKING POINT
Revellers are flocking into Greenborough for the yearly Dark Greenborough Festival, a three-day event celebrating local folklore, superstition, and the darker side of life.
What the public doesn't know is that there has been a warning sent to the police, saying that Greenborough will be a very dangerous place this year. The anonymous letter ends with the Latin phrase, Mors certa, hora incerta: Death is certain, the hour uncertain.
DI Nikki Galena and her team soon discover this is no hoax, as people start dying from what appears to be alcoholic poisoning. Things rapidly escalate, and as the deaths get more horrific, Nikki realizes they have a serial killer in their midst.

Irritating but strangely addictive
I don't know why I continue with this series - I've never really taken to Nikki Galena, I find Joseph so excruciatingly perfect he sets my teeth on edge. The plots aren't great and nor is the narration. But, as they say, don't let that put you off. For some unknown reason I still avidly purchase each instalment and despite all of my misgivings do genuinely enjoy the experience.

Darkness on the fens
Joy Ellis came up with another intriguing enjoyable storyline . Narrator's interpretation of local dialect somewhat lacking tho!

Not for me
Couldn't finish this one :( Completely pedestrian writing, cardboard characters, stilted dialogue, uninspiring story - I could go on... . Sometimes decent narration can lift a mediocre book into being an acceptable, if uninspiring listen. Sadly this was not the case here. The dreadful and inconsistent accents pulled it down even further. Sad, as I've enjoyed some of Joy Ellis's other books. It's made me wary of spending money on others...

Very dark
Good story - few too many characters to keep up with and murders are pretty awful in nature but kept my attention. Got used to narrator by book 10

Midsomer Murders on the Fens
Too long. Too far fetched. Too high a
Body count. Too many sleuths. Too many serial killers. They must all be exhausted

Great story
I have followed along with the whole series so far & whilst the story is up to the usual high standards, the narrator has developed so much. The characters each have their own voice and they flow nicely between each other. Great job!

An eye roll emoji would sum this book up
I have previously enjoyed Joy Ellis’s books and found her to be a good writer but this book was just awful.
The narrator was good (apart from one high pitched screeching detective called Cat) but the story was a mixture of boring, ridiculous and contrived. Characters such as ‘Spooks’ and ‘Bliss’ were more caricatures added for quirk value than characters that bring anything to the story, and the rest of them were pretty uninspiring too. My attention drifted so many times due to boredom that I completely missed the murder of one character - it made no difference.

excellent storyline
I love this series, so maybe I am biased, but this entry is superb, all of the books are intricate but this one is very cleverly done, I do have a particular fondness for all things historical myself so again, maybe I am biased but I certainly enjoyed the story.
I did find the ending annoying though, I was always a little annoyed by Joseph's 'by the book' attitude but he seems to have a bit of a breakdown in this story and the roles are reversed, but I was still annoyed, both Joseph and Nikki had their own reasons for feeling the way they did toward particular killers and in my opinion neither had the right to sway the others opinion one way or the other, the justice system is very flawed in any country, and the whole 'leave it to the system' part of any story just annoys me but never so much as in this particular story which is why I gave it five stars for being outstanding in this area.
Henrietta Meire is a good narrator, I very much enjoy listening to her but she never changes, most of her characters sound the same, male or female, it is very hard to tell the difference but she gets four stars because she's great regardless, very emotive and enjoyable to listen to.

Chaotic Cauldron of Genres
Midsommer Murders meets Silent Witness with a pinch of Gothic Novel and a touch of Romance Novel to spice it up. There is a side order of Golden Girls and Action Man.
There are many characters and the narrator does her best but how many voices can one woman provide?
