Banks: Buried in the shadows of the city, there's a hotel called The Pope. Ailing, empty, and dark, it sits abandoned and surrounded by a forgotten mystery. But you think it's true, don't you, Kai Mori? The story about the hidden 12th floor. The mystery of the dark guest who never checked in and never checks out. You think I can help you find that secret hideaway and get to him, don't you? I will never betray him. Kai: You have no idea what I seek, Little One. You don't know what I had to become to survive three years in prison for a crime I would gladly commit again.

My name is Tate. He doesn't call me that, though. He would never refer to me by a friendly nickname. No, he'll barely even speak to me. But he still won't leave me alone. We were best friends once. Then he turned on me and made it his mission to ruin my life. I've been humiliated, shut out and gossiped about all through high school. His pranks and rumours got worse as time wore on, and I made myself sick trying to stay out of his way. I even went to France for a year, just to avoid him.

In fifth grade my teacher set us up with pen pals from a different school. Thinking I was a girl, with a name like Misha, the other teacher paired me up with her student Ryen. My teacher, believing Ryen was a boy like me, agreed. It didn't take long for us to figure out the mistake. And in no time at all, we were arguing about everything. The best take-out pizza. Triple Falls wasn’t at all what it seemed, nor were the men that swept me under their wing. But in order to keep them, I had to be in on their secrets. Secrets that cost us everything to keep. That’s the novelty of fiction versus reality. You can’t re-live your own love story, because by the time you’ve realized you’re living it, it’s over. At least that was the case for me and the men I trusted my foolish heart to. Looking back, I’m convinced I willed my story into existence, due to my illness, and all were punished.

I was a good girl. I ate my vegetables, volunteered at the local autism centre, and sat in the front pew of church every Sunday. Then, I got cancer. What the hell kind of reward was that for a boring life well lived? I was a 17-year-old paradigm of virtue, and I was tired of it. So, when I finally ran into the man I'd been writing to since he saved my life as a little girl and he offered to show me the dark side of life before I left it for good, I said yes.

Story
My name is Samantha Ross, and this is my life. I existed in a world that few know. Rundown trailers and crime-ridden streets were my home. Drugs and alcohol were the norm, and happiness was the exception. I lived from day to day, never knowing if I would have a roof over my head or food in my stomach. My life sucked. It took from me and gave nothing back. But there was one certainty in my life. A black smudge on my window of hell.
Summary
Erika: His name is Michael Crist. My boyfriend's older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He's handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college's basketball team and now gone pro, he's more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.
Michael: Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika. My brother's girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven't had her body, I know that I have her mind. That's all I really want, anyway.
Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college. In my city. Unprotected. The opportunity is too good to be true. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they're out. We've waited. We've been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.

What a disappointment!
What an absolutely rubbish book!! I am so annoyed I spent nearly 14 hours listening to this tripe especially when you consider how good “birthday girl“ was. Everything about this book was total rubbish especially the ending! I feel so angry and hugely disappointed. I really wanted to give up on it halfway through but going by the reviews (are we reading the same book???) thought I would persist, what a mistake.
Having just finished and thoroughly enjoyed Birthday Girl, I was really looking forward to this book. However the best description for it would be oral porn. The main character was insipid and irritating, the storyline was utter &**((& , the female narration was God awful, the ending was diabolically BAD - overall this book was a 0 out of 10 compare to a 10 out of 10 for birthday girl. Like I said, what a bloody disappointment.

So dark!
I read this book initially but as the series progressed I lost track of all the twists so decided to listen to it again on audio. The story is deliciously dark and twisted and certainly this is the type of book that draws me in. Once where you really don't know which direction the author is going to take the story and enough shocks along the way to keep your attention.
These pair of narrators deliver a clear and precise audio making it easy to fall into the story just as much as if you were reading!

A-MAZ-ING!
This deeply twisted, totally enthralling tale is immaculately acted by the two narrators, Tatiana Sokolov and Jeremy York. They capture the tension perfectly and facilitate the time switches which pile up the progression of the story seemlessly. I have been captivated entirely!

A sick dark twisted romance.. just how I like it
This was dark, twisted and really screwed with my mind.. and the sick pup I am meant l loved every bit of it. The story is ultimately a love story between Rika and Michael, however he's her boyfriend's (Trevor) older brother which brings all the angst you can imagine. The story goes back and forth between now and three years ago when something happened that affected Michael's three friends - Damon, Will and Kai. The story is well written, different and enthralling. It had me captivated and second guessing throughout

Ok, sooooo this book gave me serious anxiety! If you are a victim of sexual assault, know of someone or have ever been kidnapped, have been robbed for all your worth, or any type of assault that you struggle with this book will give you serious PTSD you should avoid it. I LOVE THIS AUTHOR but this one is a definite no go for me. It was most certainly suspenseful though!
Honestly, I probably would have shot them by the middle of the book. END!

Horrible.....just horrible
Could barely finish this one. This was a badly done psycho meets heathers book. There was not a single character I could relate to or didnt want to die in a firey death. (Spoiler Alert) the main character spent the whole book making excuses for the guys scaring her to the point of tears with threats of violence and rape. And in the end after all the bullshit, the MC gets together with one of them. SMH, sorry not my type of book. I like my MCs to have a backbone.

really? a sociopath, anti-social megalomaniac
tortured a girl, using his friends and money to "destroy" her. and she shrugs it off and in 3 seconds forgives him and then has sex with him. I couldn't finish this. story continuity was a little off in places. and a Scooby-doo ending.... actually I didn't make it to the end but you can just see it coming. I need to go wash my brain out and I'll never get back the time I did waste on this book.

Caution this has spoilers
The story was a little slow to start. Once it got going there were numerous times I found myself wondering why Rika didn't throat punch Michael. Because trust me he deserved it. I didn't quite buy the idea that a man can steal your money, burn down your house and threaten you and your mother and still fall into his bed. This made it a bit hard to like the guy much less want him to end up with the girl. If anything you hope she files a lawsuit or get a restraining order against him.

Disturbing themes
The male main characters sexually assault and abuse women and get off on it. The heroine spends the book being conditioned to enjoy abuse and to view it as being “corrupted” or opened up to an exciting way of life. All of the characters are spoiled, bored, rich “kids” (read: full grown adults in their 20s) who blame other people when they get punished for committing crimes out of boredom. I kept hoping for it to get better, but sadly, it didn’t.

First let me start by saying I listened to this book without ever reading the synopsis so I was very confused in the beginning. All I knew about it going into it was that Audible had is marked as erotica, well i'm not sure if I'd call it that just because there is some sex. Ericka is a strong girl who everyone thinks is a spoiled girl who needs everything done for her...They are wrong! This character grew a lot during this book to me. This book had me lost with the back and forth between the past & present but once the story started to unfold it was like a light bulb turned on and it made complete sense. This book is twisty & dark and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I know I will recommend this to all my friends who love a dark, twisty book for sure.
The narration was good. Tatiana Sokolov was good even if I feel like she sounded older that the characters and at first I thought that Jeremy York's voice was a little "psycho creepy" but in the end it was perfect too!!!

There are no words for this.
In short, rich kids with no sense of consequences.
These kids are untouchable by the law in such a stupid no logical way.
IF this was paranormal, so much more of this would fly.
The plot makes no sense, it's merely stitched together and barely holding. It feels like the author wrote down the first ideas and just didn't bother reading back to see if shit made sense.
Dude characters in this book are soooo baaad, all the fricking time, there's not much redeeming them at all. Also stupid.
Our heroine is suffering from stupid as well.
I really wanted to like this book, and atm I'm about 75% finished with the book and every chapter I'm thinking "Surely it'll get better soon".
But it just keeps coming with more stupid logic.
I've read "birthday girl" by the same author and despite a slow start, I enjoyed that book.
Back to struggling to finish this, I'm just glad this was part of the romance package and not something I bought.

Captivating!
This book surprised me. In a good way. I mean, I DON'T read YA. Hardly ever. Too much contrived drama. Too much of a reminder of my kids and the college students I teach each semester, each day. I do enough eye rolling with my classes. A LOT OF EYE ROLLING. So, to read YA? No, thanks.
But this one had an interesting premise, so I decided to proceed cautiously. I was prepared to stop once I got bored. You see, this is my second book by Douglas. The first, Misconduct, was disappointing. It, too, had seemed interesting, but the plot was not engaging and the big reveal at the end fell flat. So, I wasn't sure if this one would be any better.
BUT it was! Oh yes, it was!
It had it all: interesting premise, complex characters, suspense, unpredictable plot, multi-layered themes, and solid secondary characters. It even had constant flashbacks and they weren't annoying. I was kept curious and guessing, wondering WHY.
I thought this showed expert plotting. Quite fascinating, actually. And oh, so erotic! Very. And dark. Very.
The male narrator? *sigh* Jeremy York has a yummy voice. And the female narrator? Must you ask? Tatiana Sokolov? It IS Tatiana! That goes without saying. She is second to none! NONE.
This was an overall superior experience. This is the quality of audiobook that spoils you. It wrecks you so that you can't endure audiobooks that aren't as well executed. It left me searching desperately for a similar listening experience.
So ... Kudos to Ms. Douglas!
Highly recommended!

This is a crazy, screwed up story. The characters are not relatable. Vulgar and not at all romantic. The narrators sucked. The male narrator sounded like he should be narrating true crime stories. The female narrator's voice was so annoying and babyish.

dos dark
Although I enjoyed this audio book, the author took us to a very dark place with low morals and questionable characters. I did not like this book as much as her previous works, however I found the narration to be spot on.
