Summary

Nina continues to learn how to use her slayer powers against enemies old and new in this second novel in the New York Times best-selling series from Kiersten White, set in the world of Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Now that Nina has turned the Watcher’s Castle into a utopia for hurt and lonely demons, she’s still waiting for the utopia part to kick in. With her sister, Artemis, gone and only a few people remaining at the castle - including her still-distant mother - Nina has her hands full. Plus, though she gained back her Slayer powers from Leo, they’re not feeling quite right after being held by the seriously evil succubus Eve, a.k.a. fake Watcher’s Council member and Leo’s mom. And while Nina is dealing with the darkness inside, there’s also a new threat on the outside, portended by an odd triangle symbol that seems to be popping up everywhere, in connection with Sean’s demon drug ring as well as someone a bit closer to home. Because one near-apocalypse just isn’t enough, right?

The darkness always finds you. And once again, it’s coming for the Slayer.

Worse than the first.. SPOLIER ALERT

For a main character that is supposed to be sweet, caring, and literally a reflection of light (her sisters view from first book), she's always so angry. In the first book she was always mad at Buffy and now it's her almost lover Leo. Also, for a slayer, she's more like a whiny self centered preteen (and that's being nice) whose way into her emotions to fight in reality. They portrayed Oz as clueless as well as almost helpless (which doesn't give the real character justice) and slayers who fought the First absolute weaklings compared to her? The entire plot was rushed, predictable, and absolutely unbelievable in the real Buffy verse. Nina admitted in the very beginning she wasn't really training since Leo died and yet she's more capable a fighter than experienced slayers that trained under Buffy? OK, so she might have gotten a little more juice than them, but if an inexperienced swordsman used the strongest and sharpest sword it will always lose to an expert with a cheaper duller blade. I can't even say she grew in the end because now she's just hurt and mad at her sister. The first book was not my favorite, but when I read that more characters from Buffy was coming into it, like a true fan of the show, I had to see for myself. But when I say this entire book was a chore, I'm not exaggerating. Other than Doug and Kilian, I can't say anyone else stuck with me. I'm very glad this was only a two part series....I'm sure the author is great at writing and I tried viewing this objectively but when every other paragraph speaks about her confusion, sadness, and anger (her favorite of the three) and sometimes all at the same time - it just gets hard to truly get behind her as the main girl....

Great book

This was a great book, and definitely helps with that Buffy itch. Though the voice she used for Oz is not my favorite
