A great conclusion to the first set

A really strong conclusion to the first act of the Adrian's Undead Diary series. At the time of writing I don't think there was a plan to continue the story beyond this arc so all the loose threads get tied up in a really satisfying ending. I can't really say any more without spoilers but it's the final piece in one of my favourite series of all time. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I've listened to this entire series in double figures now. I've usually found the zompoc genre a bit thin on quality but this set is the exception to the rule - it's not about zombies for starters, it's about people and there just happen to be zombies around.
The only thing I didn't like about the book was that it was the last in the series but that's been fixed now - there is more Adrian to read now :)

Epic end to an epic tale

What a ride, from start to finish this series has captivated me.

Chris's has a way of writing that hooks you right from the word go.

James Fosters performance through out also deserves a mention!

This series is great, love listening to Adrian, makes my 2.5 hour twice weekly commute disappear.
This would be a great place to finish and move on to another series / author.. but I want (need) to follow Adrian’s adventures some more :)

Finally....a resolution!

After 8 books of listening, long standing questions have been answered, and still, a few more arise to be answered at a later date.
Cassie was a great listen, I never thought I'd be able to listen to a series of 8 books one after another, and yet I want more. I must go now to listen to book 9.
A fantastic story told incredibly well.
Get going now.

Hits the mark

This set of books is just the right blend of zombie fear and human nature. How we would fall apart and then try to rebuild. Has a great twist to the usual zombie theme. I’ve enjoyed all 8 books. So glad I found them by accident.

So bitter sweet

This is a review of the eighth and final book of a series, there could be spoilers to previous books below.

I am writing this review with a heavy heart as Cassie is the eighth and final book to the Adrian’s Undead Diary saga; a saga that has quickly become on of the best zombie apocalypse series out there. One that has touched me in more ways than I can count. One that has exposed me to another one to add to my favorite authors list and one to add to my favorite narrators list. While I was thrilled for this book to finally be released it is a very bitter sweet experience.

I do not want to give anything away for those of you who have not gotten this far. So this review is going to be brief.

With a book series that has gone on as long as this one has. Philbrook had a lot of work to close up any loopholes that may have existed in the story line. He did so with little effort. Many different times throughout Cassie I thought that I knew how he was going to end it. Well, he didn’t do what I thought and ended in such a way that made it pretty final.

I will say these couple of things. This book focuses strongly on, you guessed it, Cassie; Adrian’s long lost girlfriend who he has mention in I think every book until now. The trinity makes perfect sense now. Because 3 is a magic number.

From the last book I thought something like this was going to happen. Adrian was going to go back to the nether realm, look for and find Cassie. Then be overcome with heart break because of the state that she was in. That he decides nothing is worth living anymore and stay in the nether realm.

Then from this book I thought that the remaining government officials, that make an appearance here, were going to drop the bombs, unknowingly, on Adrian’s band of survivors. There were so many different direction Philbrook could have gone to leave it open for another book in the future, however now, I do not think that will be possible. While there might be more in this same timeline and universe. Sadly I think this will be it for Adrian and the gang we, I, have come to love.

Once again James Foster delivers another stellar performance. I have listened to him read other stories, I still think it is with becoming Adrian where is true prowess shines. Adding all of the exasperation and sighs and other emotional heart jerkers as he can think of to create a narration phenomenon like very few others.

I love this series so much, and want to share it with others so much, that I am personally going to giveaway any one audiobook in the series to one lucky person.

SIMPLY FAN-DAM-TASTIC!!!!!!!!

Any additional comments?

This entire series. These 8 deliciously wonderful and undeniably brilliant undead diary books were/are/forever shall be, the absolute best series I have ever laid ears on. I apologize for the bad pun but, I'm visually impaired and I just couldn't resist. Anywho, if you have read the entire series that's great but, these books scream out to be listen too. Why is that you say? Well, (heavy sigh) Chris Philbrook and by extension the narrator James (what a performance) Foster fit together like a hand and glove. The character development is serious, seamless and deep. On occasion I cried a wee tear or twelve, laughed harder than I thought possible, and I even puzzled (sometimes out loud) with various characters when the tough or delicate questions were asked. The story development did not falter from one book to the next. I love these books and will always have them primed and ready to listen to them again and again. So a big shout out to Chris Philbrook for writing and developing this most awesome series. And another goes out to James Foster for bringing these most awesome books to life. So Audible members give these books a listen. You will never be disappointed.

Love this series, but.....

As I've gotten to the last couple of books in this series, I am ready for it to end. And maybe the author is as well because this book seems rushed. And the ending, if this is the last book, left me confused and kind of let down. The narration is spot on, and this series is a fresh take on the zombie apocalypse theme. Well worth listening to. Adrian endures so much and is manipulated by powers much greater than himself and I was eager to find out how he would end up triumphing over his circumstances. And in the last few chapters, when he finally faced the ultimate challenge, it was a huge letdown. I thought, 'that's all he had to do? To save the world? It took him about 10 minutes to do it! And what was the ultimate purpose of the trinity!?! After all everyone had gone through, this is all they had to do? After all of the machinations of the ultimate powers, this was the final task they came up with?'

A Wonderful Wrap Up, Brought a Family Together

What made the experience of listening to Cassie the most enjoyable?

I began AUD quite some time ago and fell in love. My husband and I notoriously like different things and he appeased me by trying this...and he fell in love. With my veteran husband championing, my brother started reading while deployed...which sparked my other brothers...and eventually we were all calling and texting about Adrian! It has been endlessly wonderful to have drinks with my brothers and husband and chat, yell, get angy and laugh about AUD. I'll never forget random text messages from one of them that just said "OH F*$&!" and I would say WHERE ARE YOU!!!??? or I KNOW, RIIIIGHT!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Cassie?

Seeing Cassie's point of view was unsettling in a really nice way. Outside of the meeting in Africa with Michelle- this was the creepiest moment for me.

Another great addition to the AUD series.

Where does Cassie rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The AUD series is within my top three favorite series of all time

What does James Foster bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He's been the voice of Adrian since book one for me, and anyone else reading this series just wouldn't sound right.

Amazing

As usual this book is great. A lot of questions are answered and you are left with some questions as well. If you love all the other books then you'll love this one too. Chris Philbrook is a great writer and James Foster as usual does an awesome job narrating.
