About this listen

Renee keeps a diary after she finds out her daddy is sick with cancer. She even starts praying and asking God to make him better. But what if he doesn’t get any better?

She is worried that she won’t be able to talk to her daddy after he has gone, but her daddy encourages her to keep talking to him, no matter what.

“But how will I know if you can hear me?” she asks.

“Just have faith,” her daddy answers.

Even as he becomes sicker and weaker, she learns about the meaning of faith and sees how we can still have peace and joy during such a difficult time.

It is not easy to talk to your kids about the difficult and uncomfortable topics of death, loss, and grief. Hopefully, with this book, listeners can be uplifted and learn about how faith in Christ can bring us peace and comfort, knowing that death is not the end, but the beginning of an eternity with our Father in Heaven.

This touching story is valuable at helping children cope with the grief of losing a parent. The first lesson for a child would be to realize that parents might not always like what children do, the second lesson would be to enforce a desirable action e.g. writing and reading, and the third one to overcome grief by talking to the parent who can hear from heaven. The blue butterfly 🦋 arrival symbolically confirmed the presence of a loved father and the continuation of love and support for a child. The narrator passionately added to the strength of the story by showing a deep emotion while reading it.

A beautiful story that brought tears to my eyes

Renee is a young girl whose father becomes seriously ill with cancer. She documents her thoughts and feelings as her father's health deteriorates. "Can You Hear Me, Daddy?" deals with the extremely difficult topic of losing a loved one. It's a sad and moving book, but ultimately uplifting because of Renee's faith that her father can still hear her when she talks to him, even after he has passed away. This short and deceptively simple book is important. It could be very useful for children struggling to deal with the loss of a loved one. (No harm reading it if you're an adult either!) And Rosie Akerman sensitively performs the story, bringing it to life for the audiobook format.

Important story for dealing with grief
