Summary

A laugh-out-loud, slice-of-life martial-arts fantasy about . . . farming????

Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck in his body.

And you know what? Things ain’t actually all that bad.

I mean, last year was pretty hectic. I died, got reborn, ran away from my sect and ultimate power, started a farm, made some friends, awakened all my animals into Spirit Beasts so now they’re running around talking and getting into life-and-death battles with super-powered bandits . . .

Oh! And I got married. Pretty neat, huh?

Well, this year, after the Spring Planting season, I’m really gonna relax and put down roots. It’s the slow life for me. Sure, the talking animals and cultivators coming to live with me are a bit weird, but this year everything is gonna be basically normal.

There definitely won’t be any Heavenly Tribulations, ancient formations, or cultivator issues to deal with . . .

The second volume of the blockbuster progression-fantasy series—with more than 20 million views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

More about the other characters

This is a great continuation from the first book and picks right where it left off. While the first book mostly and mainly focused on the story of Joe Jin, with few bits of other characters. This time the book focuses more on the other characters and their development. Wonderful story and highly recommended if you want to continue from book 1.

Excellent Sequel

Now I understand that some people want this sort of story to focus on the main character but I completely disagree with them for this story. the world progressed and our animal buddy growth wouldn't have been half as good without their turns in the plot. Great book, can't wait for the third.

Brilliant.

I hate slice of life stories. I absolutely love this series so far.

It is so smartly written, and I love the characters!

Still a bit hard to follow due to the names, but the writing makes it manageable as it provides helpful info so the listener can remember said character.

It feels like there always is some sort of progress or development or some new dynamic between the characters.

Very gripping, could not put it down.

The narration was sublime as well.

Hope this keeps up as it is so wholesome!

Congrats to everyone involved in the project

How I was so wrong

I was suggested this book from a Facebook group I'm In about 6 months ago, I looked at the front cover and read part of the description an thought what a load of poop this looked...OH HOW I WAS WRONG I will admit it.
Really good first 2 books with lots or laughs and with just the right amount to keep you interested and not binge it, making you pay attention to each and ever chapter without the dragging boredom that some books force you to complete before any type of action happens ....when is book 3 out.

Slice of Life at its Best

This an excellent next book in the series, more world building, more spirit animals, more relaxing\working on the farm.
Narration is also excellent!
Highly Recommend, hope the next one is released sooner than this one was.

Amazing, a bit too much story though 😜

I love this series, it’s what I listen to when I’m feeling down and need a pick me up.

I love how wholesome the main cast of characters are, how they interact with one another and how they somehow manage to lean into Xianxia tropes and subvert them at the same time.

Another thing I love is the farming sections as I find them therapeutic. I think this is because the character makes solid progress without the author falling to the temptation of min-maxing everything.

It’s also funny af. I have literally never laughed at a book so much as I have this series.

Regarding story progress. A lot of the story progress is driven by character progression, of which there is a lot in this book. Some of it I really liked, some of it I understand and one or two aspects feel a bit… “too much, too soon”…

What I did appreciate though was the extra context for the world in general, like how in a world full of basically average people, it’s the assholes and saints who stand out.

Lastly, I’d like to note that I don’t dislike the way the story is shaping up, it’s actually really intriguing, it’s just that I’m here for the slice of life aspect, as no other book has made me this happy just by listening.

Oh yeah, good job Travis, you’re a star as always!

Not sure what the storyline is

This is a pretty boring listen. I thought it would be a little more intense than the first book but I was wrong. there is absolutely no character progression. I don't even know where the story is going at this point. it feels like something is going to happen and then nothing happens.

Great performance, Terrible story progression

The book isn't bad, it's just that next to nothing happens. MC literally made ZERO gains this book. Neither did Big D. This could've easily been book 1.5 honestly. Hopefully book 3 is better or I'l sadly have to drop this series.

I just love how calm and serene this series is

this series is just an amazingly calming. it is like a hot cup of tea and a blanket made in audiobook form. if you enjoyed the first one, you will not be disappointed with the second.

"pure meh"

this book seems like it's losing the thread of the story barely anything of consequence happens in this book this is definitely some grade a filler. I hope it bounces back for the next one but I won't preorder it like I did this one. almost zero face time for the mc, he's supposed to be a transplant from a different planet and yet that's barely a footnote for anything unlike the first one. the more I talk about it the less I like it.

A fun follow up

the first book is one of my favorites and this one, while not quite as good, was still an excellent sequel and easy 5 stars. The narrator did another amazing job, and overall the only thing I may complain about is time tended to jump around a lot with all the different perspectives making it occasionally jolting when we jump forward and back and forward again. But overall a fun flow up

No real story. Mostly focused on the animals

This review is for the 2nd book. I enjoyed the 1st book but the second one doubled down on the animals too much for my liking. That would of been fine but there was no progression in the story at all. We met a few more animals and there were allusions to some plot points but no progression whatsoever.

There was mention of a big tournament in the first book and all through the second but we never got there.

I listened to this book. 18hrs. What a waste. I am going to order me some fried chicken and try and forget this one

Book 2 was cut in half

The fact that vol 2 of BoC was cut in half can be felt here. I don't buy into the idea that it was cut in half just because vol 2 was too long. No customer will complain about a 20+ hr audiobook. It feels more like it was cut in half just because casualfarmer or audible wanted to monetize more of the book. That's fine, since we still get more than last time, but a lot of story arcs that are generally wrapped up by the end of vol 2 are left hanging here. I also suspect that next book will need to eat into some of the much hated vol 3's early chapters (which were so pointless and bad that they were called patreon bait by a lot of people) if it wants to keep a similar length.
That said, it is BoC and if you liked the first, you'll probably enjoy this one. Just be prepared for a certain degree of disappointment when it ends just as it feels like it should be rising toward the climax

20 hours and absolutely no conclusion.

you would think that writing an entire book at least SOMETHING would have concluded. not even the freaking letter got delivered. author jumped around between characters like a freshly launched pinball. it would be different if a single aspect had been concluded. the tournament that has been spoken of for 2 books? never see it. The entire book a sect looks for the mc to deliver a message but never finds him. simply annoying.
