Summary
Do you believe in faeries? Alexis does, but not instinctively. She prefers a logical explanation for her friend Molly's disappearance. But after coming up with only dead ends, she wonders if the impossible could be possible.
Is Molly lost in the Faery Realm? Determined to find her friend, Alexis makes a deal with one of the fae to bring her into the Faery Realm. But it is dangerous, and if Alexis isn't careful, Molly won't be the only one who needs saving.

Good idea, but with some issues
*Hook*
Didn't grab me in the beginning, just when I was starting to get invested in Molly and Alexis, Molly's taken.
All in all, I did not get enough interaction with Molly to actually care she went missing.
*Motivation*
It took too little for Alexis to believe in fairies before seeing one.
Because I wasn't attached to Molly, I don't think going all that trouble for her was worth it in the beginning. Maybe if we had gotten to meet her more.
In fact, Molly could sorta count as "woman in the fridge trope", because her sole purpose of existance seems to be for Alexis to look for her.
*Slow paced and Information dump*
At least 3 chapters were pure information dump as in one character literally asking another how everything worked or everyone's motivations. Needs stronger world building, giving information little by little (less telling, more showing)
Jynx is often used as a crutch for information dump.
*Narration*
It was difficult to tell sometimes if the character was thinking or talking, but other than that it was a great work with voices and pacing.
*Sorta problematic*
Alexis gives off "not like other girls" vibes for most the book
There's age difference by hundreds of year (???) and some consent issues with love interest that are romanticized or taken as what's best for main character.
TW: mentions of alcoholism, emotional abuse, graphic violence and consent issues

Great character growth
I really enjoyed this book, I thought the story was great, the pacing and world building were excellent and there was some great character arcs within the story that hint at a need for expansion of the world.
I really liked seeing the dynamic between bubbly, outgoing, popular molly and the quieter Alexis. They work well together Alexis keeping Molly grounded, while Molly helps Alexis into being part of more social situations. Their genuine affection for each other is clear from the start which only makes it so much more deverstating when later in the book Alexis is asked if Molly would have done the same for her, made a deal with a fae, travelled to a different world, battled her way through a court just to get her back and bring her home and Alexis's reply is a simple 'no she has other friends'.
Alexis has no idea that she can be important to anyone, even her best friend who she is desperate to find at all costs. Alexis's belief that she is unimportant is what leaves her open to being manipulated by the fae around her. But there is so much more to her that she doesn't see, like the way she seems to accidentally collect allies, the elf Prince though not totally trustworthy helps her in her quest, even Jinks and Jackseth seem to be on her side by the end of it. By the end of this story Alexis has grown in her self confidence and self worth, being pushed into situations where she had to speak up for herself has given her a new voice with her friends, one that Molly was always trying to encourage her to show. The growing romance between Alexis and the Prince of the dark Court is wonderful and genuine. I like the way he sees something in her she can't see herself and though he does everything in his power to diswade her from going to look for Molly, he resigns himself to her strength of will and determination, even if occasionally he has to step in and help her he still respects her enough to let her forge her own path and make her own choices.
Jinks is an interesting character as you can never really tell where her loyalty lies but she definitely seems to have a soft spot for Alexis and is genuine in her offer to help search for Molly.
Jackesth or the wolf, is an interesting character too, even after discovering he was tasked with finding Molly and then Alexis for someone else in the court we are still left questioning his motivation. He often steps in to help Alexis when she needs someone but doesn't tell her the whole story about why he is doing what he's doing. As soon as he has fulfilled his part he finds the Prince and tells him the situation that Alexis is in. Somewhere along the journey he seems to have come to care for Alexis to what extent is never made clear but there is a certain sense of remorse that he has left her in danger and he knows he's not strong enough to help her. I hope Jink and Jackesths characters get more exploration in later books.
I also liked that both Molly and her mother, who have both said and done awful things to each other are given the chance to apologise, each admitting fault and taking responsibility to mend their relationship.
When it comes to Molly it is clear that she loves Alexis as a sister and wants the best for her, she's excited when she thinks Alexis wants to make plans with Mollys other friends and sad when it turns out she doesn't. she is happy when they are finally reunited that Alexis had started to be part of the group at least a little bit more. but there is a resonate feeling that Molly is still keeping something from Alexis, something happened while she was away that has changed her and maybe not for the better.
I look forward to the expansion of the world.
Rachel Leblang is a great narrator, giving each character a distinct voice of their own and making this a very enjoyable listen.
Sadly there were some audio issues in the latter half of the book, some weird buzzing and crackling and some weird muffling noises but it didn't detract too much from the listening experience, I think it just needs cleaning up a bit in places otherwise it was excellent.
