Summary

Vienna Rossi is going to the marine corps ball.

The bad news is she will be on a blind date.

The good news is the ball is being held in Las Vegas.

Everything was going smoothly until Jack, her handsome spirit guide, suddenly shows up.

The last time she’d seen Jack, her life had been in jeopardy.

Vienna hopes that her date isn’t a psycho serial killer like her previous one.

Or was this time different?

Could Jack be jealous?

Suddenly strange things begin to happen; reoccurring nightmares, objects moving on their own, a marked page in a magazine that leads Vienna to the Titanic exhibit.

Could a ghost be trying to reach her?

Join Vienna, Kim, and Jack, as they team up for a heartwarming paranormal adventure that opens the door to a life full of beautiful beginnings.

I like the story but I'm not too fond of the characters. Being that this is the second book in this series (the main characters are the same, the stories are different) I would like that Vienna would be a bit more accepting of her ability to see ghosts. Instead she's just as neurotic or even more so. She's always worrying about what others will think about her. Which, granted, is a valid worry but also a bit annoying if you're reading a paranormal mystery where the main character is supposed to help ghosts find peace and move on. I understand that Kim is supposed to be more open-minded and there to challenge Vienna and push her toward accepting her abilities but she just comes across as pushy and a bit bratty. Their friendship dynamic seems to be that Kim pushes Vienna until Vienna caves and leaves her comfort zone. It bugged me that it took until three quarters (or more) into the second book of a three-book series for Vienna to be comfortable with herself.

The narration was okay - not great, not terrible. Better than the first book where most of the women sounded like the stereotypical dumb blonde valley girl. I'm glad the narrator tones that down quite a bit.

I liked the story itself, especially a scene at the Marine Corps Ball (You'll know it when you read it). I liked the mystery of the ghost and how that played out. I'm interested to see where this series goes or if it's more of the same.

Interesting ghost encounters

I don't read many of these types of books, so I found it an interesting view point, it kept me engrossed, wanting to hear the next ghost encounter. In fact, that is how I feel now, waiting for the next book. I'll also go back to book 1, which I haven't heard yet. The ball scene was particularly moving and I appreciated it being put in being involved with the forces (albeit British). There are quite a few scenarios that this storyline could utilise and I look forward to hearing more.
