Summary
A darkly comic family fable and companion novel to American Gods.
THE NUMBER ONE NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER AND COMPANION NOVEL TO AMERICAN GODS.
Everything changes for Fat Charlie Nancy, the South London boy so called by his father, the day his dad drops dead while doing karaoke.
Charlie didn't know his estranged father was a god - Anansi the trickster, master of mischief and social disorder. He never knew he had a brother either.
Now brother Spider is on his doorstep, about to make life more interesting...and a lot more dangerous. It's a meeting that will take Fat Charlie from his London home to Florida, the Caribbean, and the very beginning of the world itself. Or the end of the world, depending on which way you're looking.
NEIL GAIMAN.
WITH STORIES COME POSSIBILITIES.
Critic reviews
"Neil could never have known that he was writing for a confused Jamaican kid who, without even knowing it, was still staggering from centuries of erasure of his own gods and monsters." (Marlon James)
"A warm, funny, immensely entertaining story about the impossibility of putting up with your relations - especially if they happen to be Gods." (Susanna Clarke)
"It's virtually impossible to read more than ten words by Neil Gaiman and not wish he would tell you the rest of the story." (Observer)

Splendid
A simple tale, beautifully told. Lenny Henry's narration is top-notch and the story is accessible and refreshingly unassuming. Can't recommend this one enough.

Lenny Henry's performance shines
Where does Anansi Boys rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I'm a huge Neil Gaiman fan and have read nearly everything he's published. I love his work so much that I've wanted to experience my favourites again in audio book form. Some audio books really fall flat, but the Neil Gaiman ones have been excellent so far. After listening to the brilliant audio version of American Gods I just had to give Anansi Boys a go. Lenny Henry shines in his performance of this book. Lenny Henry's vocal agility with different voices and the natural ease and rhythm he brings to the Caribbean accents in the book make him an inspired and appropriate choice as narrator. I absolutely loved it! This one will be listened to again and again.

Absatively
Lenny Henry's narration was the best I have heard on Audible. He brings characters to life with such ease. Mrs Higgler is now my favourite Neil Gaiman character.
The book is excellent.

I love this book.
I've been a Neil Gaiman fan for years and have already read this book, however, having Lenny Henry read it is perfect. Only he could do the characters voices justice and it makes listening to this an absolute joy.

Sorry Lenny!
I really had to stick with this audio for about the first 3 - 4 hours. Unfortunately, as much as I like Lenny Henry, I didn't like the performance and feel it may have detracted from my overall enjoyment.
I would like to add that this is the first fiction audio book I have listened to, so it may just be the format that I don't like.
If you're in 2 minds about this audio then I would suggest buying the book and reading.

Gaiman at his best again.
I absolutely love this book as I do other Neil Gaiman's creations. It is a clear spoof of "American Gods" (or maybe it was the first of the two) so I had to have it in my audiobook collection too.
I was not disappointed. Great performance with a great Mr. Livingstone's Yorkshire accent, great story which makes a great audiobook.
