Story
Everyone expects Billie Bridgerton to marry one of the Rokesby brothers. The two families have been neighbours for centuries, and as a child the tomboyish Billie ran wild with Edward and Andrew. Either one would make a perfect husband...someday. There is only one Rokesby Billie absolutely cannot tolerate, and that is George. He may be the eldest heir to the earldom, but he's arrogant, annoying and she's absolutely certain he detests her. Which is perfectly convenient, as she can't stand the sight of him, either.

Story
A Regency romp about a young lady who vows revenge on the rakish lord who loved and left her, only to find herself unexpectedly caught in Cupid's net along with the handsome viscount when her plan to love and leave him backfires.
Summary
The third novel in the beloved Regency-set world of Julia Quinn's charming, powerful Bridgerton family, now a series created by Shonda Rhimes for Netflix. Welcome to Benedict's story....
Sophie Beckett never dreamt she would sneak into Lady Bridgerton's famed masquerade ball - or that 'Prince Charming' would be waiting there for her! Though the daughter of an earl, Sophie had been relegated to the role of servant by her disdainful stepmother. But that night, spinning in the strong arms of the debonair and devastatingly handsome Benedict Bridgerton, she felt like royalty. Yet she knows all enchantments must end.
But Sophie has reckoned without Benedict's determined heart: he has sworn to find and wed his mystery miss, for he knows this is his only chance for a fairy tale love....
Critic reviews
"Light, pacy and full of feisty heroines." (Guardian on the Bridgerton series)
"Julia Quinn's Bridgerton books take all of the classic tropes we know and love...and gives them a thoroughly modern twist. I can't focus on anything else." (Stylist)
"Quinn is a master of historical romance." (Entertainment Weekly)

Badly written but good story
These books are so badly written, you can tell from the first chapter that the author is writing about a period that she knows little about. The text is littered with 'Americanisms' and inaccuracies so if you are seriously into your period novels then this will wear thin. All of the lead female characters are bimbo's and airheads despite the author continually telling us they are intelligent, which is incredibly disappointing from a female author. If you are any kind of feminist then these books are not for you. HOWEVER I'm a sucker for romance and I just can't stop buying them. That probably says more about me than about the books.

A diverting story.
I enjoy all Julia Quinn's Bridgerton books. The only thing that grates is the obvious 'Americanisms' like 'gotten' instead of 'got'. And the use of 'right?' at the end of a sentence. This is 19th century England after all.
The narrator is excellent though.

Loved it.
This is Benedict Bridgerton's story and what a wonderful story it is. It is very much like Cinderella, he falls for a masked woman who attends his family's masquerade ball. She attends against her stepmother's wishes and needs to be on her way home by midnight if she is to remain undiscovered, but rather than leave a glass slipper behind, Benedict is left with one of her gloves.
I love the likeness to Cinderella but it is so much more than that. This book, as with the others in the series had the perfect mix of light and dark moments and I loved that it could make me laugh out loud in places.
The narration by Rosalyn Landor as always is perfect. She not only makes the lead characters come to life, but her voices of even the smallest parts are delightful. I am very much looking forward to listening to the next book in the series.

I listened to the first 2 books a few times. I really like them. This one was just... insipid to give it a word, specially in the beginning. I even tried to listen again to see if I like it but I just can't. It was hard the first time. I'm returning it.

Cute story, narrator doesn't fit
I liked the story very much, even if sometimes its a bit too cliché, but the narrator, as clear spoken as she is, just doesn't fit the vibe of the story...
Its very strange to hear an old woman's voice talking as a woman in her 20th...

This is my favorite of the Bridgestone series so far. I think the heroine feels very real and the ups and downs of the story are fantastic.
