Summary

Although this book is part of a trilogy, each book is a stand-alone story in its own right.

Charlotte Webster thought she was eloping with the love of her life. She did not expect it to be a ploy and a way to force her way to a marriage with a stranger, who wanted an innocent bride. Held in a house of ill repute, there is little time to act to try and escape and few options to consider.

Lord Halkyn is a peer much in demand, but an expert at avoiding marriage. He has always had fixed ideas on love-it causes too many problems to be worth the trouble. He did consider marriage to one lady once, but it would have been a business transaction. Unfortunately for him, the lady in question had wanted to marry for love and had refused him. Rather than ridicule her, his opinion of her increased and he began to wonder if there was something in the nonsense that was love after all.

When visiting his favorite house of ill repute, run by a Baron, he is accosted by a woman. He is begged for help in escaping from the house. Whether it was the real fear in her voice, or whether it was the devil in him, he helped her. Suddenly his life was to become far more complicated.

Protecting an innocent, employing the services of Bow Street and racing across country, all situations that he could never have anticipated when he was first sought out by Miss Charlotte Webster.

His life was never going to be the same again.

Very Good

What did you like most about An Inconvenient Wife?

I enjoyed the whole story line. I love it when there is some suspense in historical romance and there is lots of it in An Inconvenient Wife. The baron makes a very good villain and you get a good sense of the threat he poses to Charlotte and other young girls.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I enjoyed Lord Halkyn's character. I really liked him when he appeared in book one and I was happy to see him get his own story in book 2. I liked how he changed as the story progressed and he fell in love. He didn't hesitate in helping Charlotte. He stepped up and became the hero that she needed him to be.

Have you listened to any of Elizabeth Klett’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I love everything about Elizabeth Klett's performances. Her accent is brilliant. When she narrates English historical pieces her accent and tone of voice really reflect the time period. She somehow manages to lend an old world charm to the story. She completely changes it up for contemporary stories set in America. She is amazing and I would buy an audio book simply because Elizabeth Klett has narrated it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, this was a book I wanted to listen to in one sitting. I would recommend it and the whole series.

Book 2 in an Enjoyable Regency Romance Series

Audrey Harrison has delivered with this second book in the Inconvenient Series. The story has all the drama one would expect with a Regency romance and Elizabeth Klett has provided a well presented narration. Overall enjoyable. I would just recommend that you read or listen to the previous book first as there are definite connections in the plot.

Then end totally ruins the story.

This had the making of a good book, but the hero turns into a petulant child, who "spits his dummy out". It is tedious and goes on and on and on.....
There are two stories, the first where the hero saves the heroine from a brothel. He take her to his friends to protect and goes after the perpetrators. At least that is what you are expected to belive. He actually spends pages, being drunk and self pitying. The heroine having refused his proposal of a loveless marriage.
The second story starts with a villain from a previous book turning up and going after his original victim.
The heroine loses her memory, (it didn't really matter as she a sponge influence by everyone) is presumed dead. The hero goes mad with fear, then she is found, he refuses to acknowledge his love for her. So it goes on, a web of stupidity and boredom.

Interesting follow-on to first book

This book is, in many ways such as the romance, as light hearted as the first in the series, but it does have more serious underlying themes such as the mis-treatment and selling of prostitutes and young women. None of this is described but is in the background of the plot and for those looking for a purely light-hearted escape may have an impact. The plot also has similar twists and turns to the first book. But for those who like to follow characters on from a previous book it may still be worth a credit.
