Summary

By Arturo de Hoyos, 33°, G.C., Grand Archivist and Grand Historian; Contributions and Glossary by Rex R. Hutchens, 33°, G.C., Past Grand Master; Foreword by Ronald A. Seale, 33°, Sovereign Grand Commander.

A Masonic classic! The fundamental sourcebook of Scottish Rite philosophy - now available in a new, user-friendly, and scholarly edition!

First published from 1872 to 1969, Morals and Dogma is one of the most insightful works ever prepared for Freemasonry. It is a collection of 32 essays which provide a rationale for the Scottish Rite degrees. It encompasses a study of Freemasonry, wise philosophy, ancient mysteries, mythology, ritual, and religion. It serves the useful purpose of putting Masonic morality and ethics within the context of the general society, and bids man to think large - to cast aside the petty concerns of everyday life and to improve ourselves.

This new edition includes the complete original text, but has been fully updated and improved.

Approximately 4,000 notes reveal the original sources used by Pike, clarify passages, suggest further reading, and include cross-references. New "ready references" reveal scriptural sources.

New glossary, with primary and secondary bibliographies, and a new index.

This new edition includes the complete original text, but has been fully updated and improved.

A detailed introduction on the history of Morals and Dogma.

hard to listen to this drivel.

this is not a book or story in the traditional sense. i made it to the 4th chapter. there is no information relating to the individual degrees - just repetitive gibberish and sublime/supreme this and that.

if you're looking for "secrets" or ancient knowledge, you're going to be disappointed.

The definitive work of the Scottish Rite!

There are many versions of this book out there but THIS is THE one that every Freemason should own. The performance is excellent and the annotations add an element of context to the work that make it more accessible and understandable. This is a must have.

Masonic Study

For me, this audio edition of Morals and Dogma has been essential to successfully completing the Master Craftsman educational course of the Scottish Rite, Southern Jurisdiction. The information and explanations provided in the annotated footnotes helped with my understanding of some the more challenging chapters. Also, being able to bookmark and make notes along the way is a huge plus. With over 46 hours of content, this audiobook has been my constant companion during my 1-1/2 hour commute to work.

Just Another Ramble

I've dug into many of these occults or esoteric groups. It's interesting to say the least. There's a lot of good material to apply to help anyone searching, but like all spiritual studies... they either never have the answer your chomping for or hide the ultimate truths.

People don't need illusive storylines filled with lofty ideas filled with symbolic imagery. People need straight truths to apply. It almost always starts with you, unless you're so far under that you need help to the start line again, which is ok.

I will say as a last note. If you're really on a journey to find certain realms of magik, magick, power, control, or God and Satan to experience... well you won't find it in an Audible. The real stuff is out there but you have to pursue it. Be careful.

The ultimate Scottish Rite tome beautifully narrated

Morals & Dogma is the essential work of Scottish Rite Masonry. While Albert Pike’s assumptions, interpretations, and biases have rendered an imperfect compendium of esoteric spiritual and political thought, it remains a must-read for any Mason seeking to fully understand the intellectual tradition of our Craft. Adam Hanin’s narration is nuanced, approachable, and warm.

A worthy endeavor.

The most information I have heard on the Craft yet. I was told we all should read this text and now I know why. Morals and Dogma is a must for every serious Masonic scholar. The length of the book is necessary and a fit initiation into Masonic study. The annotation are great and helpful to understand Pike:s prose structure.
