Summary

After six gruelling months back in London, Agatha Raisin returns to her beloved Cotswold village of Carsely - and to the charms of her neighbour, James Lacey. True, James is less than thrilled to see her, but Agatha is soon distracted by a sensational murder. The victim, hiker Jessica Tartinck, spent her life enraging wealthy landowners by insisting on her walking club's right to hike over their properties. Now she has been found dead....

Weakest so far

The Agatha Raisin mysteries are, for the most part, daft. They're a bit like Sunday night tele. You don't really 'enjoy' them, but you become fond of the characters and sort of end up tuning in over and over. I listened to one out of interest and I've just downloaded book 7. I've even passed a couple on to friends who equally hate to love them. If you're looking for gripping psychological drama, do not stop here. If you like Midsomer Murders and don't mind that the plots are dreadful and there are so many murders, you are pretty much only left with the murderer, you'll love this. Easy to listen to slop.

Not as good as the first three Agatha Raisin books.

Weak and rather incoherent book that feels oddly incomplete, but also as if it was written just to set up a slightly different direction for the stories. Penelope Keith’s narration of book one was reasonably good, book three okay, but her narration of this book was absolutely woeful, particularly of the ever-shifting accents. To be honest, the different narrator of book two does a far better job. Disappointing.

A great romp

I so love listening to Penelope Keith, she is so funny and so engaging. I love these stories and Agatha Raisin has become a sort of hero of mine. She is obstinate, rude and very sarcastic. These books are a wonderful escape from 'real' life and yet they cast a lens on behaviour and manners.
I enjoyed this and am looking forward to my next one.

Easy and fun. Penelope Keith is flawless!

The Agatha Raisin series is the book version of your favourite guilty pleasure TV programme. Fun, relaxing, easy entertainment. Penelope Keith's narration is simply flawless and made the book even more enjoyable.

Another enjoyable read.

I can't say how much I enjoy this series. Although I'm reading them out of sequencence, and continuity is out of the window, they are still very enjoyable. These books are easy to listen to, but still packed with all kinds of action. Brilliantly read, of course, by the wonderful Penelope Keith.

Don’t let my review put you off

Make your own mind up, but for me this was the worst Agatha book yet read. The narration was lovely, but I really didn’t like the way the two main characters were totally transplanted into another environment with a completely fresh supporting cast. Bill Wong made the odd appearance but apart from that the old characters that we had grown to love simply disappeared

Why did the Agatha Raisin audiobooks changed?

I love Agatha Raisin! I listen to the stories over and over again!
Now in May 2023 I locked out of my Auditable account and when I locked back in I've found TO MY HORROR that all the audiobooks stories have been changed? Why is that???
I MUCH PREFER THE previous versions!
It had so much more caracter than these!
surely auditble must give us a choice if we prefer the previous versions or this new version!
I'm really not happy with this!
Mrs Bloxby caracter has changed completely in this new version!
There was so much more humor in the previous version!
