Changed our relationship

I was so skeptical when I first downloaded this audiobook and I had just found out my partner had been unfaithful. Listening to this book and working through the suggested activities has allowed us to understand and build our relationship back up together. I can not recommend it enough, it helped me to understand myself better too.

Saved My Marriage, Saved My Mind

If you could sum up Affair Recovery: Scientifically Proven Methods to Help You Heal and Forgive After Infidelity in three words, what would they be?

A Communication Blessing

What was one of the most memorable moments of Affair Recovery: Scientifically Proven Methods to Help You Heal and Forgive After Infidelity?

Realizing that the trauma of infidelity is truly a physical as well as emotional assault on the victim.

What does Chris Abernathy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

To hear the reassuring words, spoken words, that validate some of the feelings I was having, was comforting. Hearing the words and sharing those spoken words with my spouse opened up a genuine line of communication that put us on the road to recovery.

What insight do you think you’ll apply from Affair Recovery: Scientifically Proven Methods to Help You Heal and Forgive After Infidelity?

Realizing that both parties involved share in the guilt and pain and that the healing has to take place for both spouses. Secondly, that the very best revenge is to live a good life in a good marriage.

Any additional comments?

I stumbled by accident on this audio book while searching for a novel to take my mind off my misery. I was skeptical and afraid it would be just another self-help book rendering few results. After listening to the first 10 minutes, I immediately gifted the audio book to my spouse. We listened, simultaneously rather than together, and the lines of true communication began to slowly open. Accepting that the individual committing the infidelity is, as well, suffering was a stunning revelation. Infidelity does not have to be the end of a relationship - the path you take at this fork can go many ways; however, it can continue without the pain, hostility and misery that once accompanied the life altering event. I highly recommend this audio book to anyone who has the misfortune of needing help addressing this issue.

This had to have been written by a cheater!

I got two chapters in and could not believe the amount of coddling that was given to the perpetrator. And when I heard, "to find out what went wrong in your marriage that caused the infidelity, so you can fix it" I WAS APPALLED! There is NEVER anything wrong with ANYONE except THE CHEATER! Please, do not believe this garbage and traumatize yourself more!

Excellent Resource

I started this read about 5 months into my seperation. The only thing I would do differently is I would have read it sooner. It covers the initial shock, the adaptation thereof, the conversations that should occur to facilitate healing, conversations with your children, deciding on working things out and/or leaving.

I was cheated on multiple times for years unbeknownst to me. One of the most difficult things to face was my own part in the seperation. I had to accept responsibility for my contributions in its deteriation in order to break the repetition whether it be in mending our relationship or any other future relationships.

Simply hated it

I was in the throes of finding out about my husband’s infidelity and wanted to grab onto anything that might help me deal with the loss and pain. This book provides neither. I’m in a good place now and decided my judgement might’ve been too harsh, so I gave it another listen. Nope! Still sucks. Save your money.

Why is a male narrator reading a female author’s book?

I don’t know why it matters to me- it just does. I like to picture the person talking to me as I listen to the audiobook.

Wow !! Is all I can say

This book has been such a God sent. I have been struggling for over 18 months and hearing the first two chapters were eye opening and literally every word was exactly how I felt and what I was going through. It helped me realize that what I had experienced was not me going crazy. This book literally got me through the
Hardest part :forgiveness and owning my part of our failure as a couple. It has changed my life and I can not thank you enough.

Saying the Truths You Need To Hear

So for the most part, everything discussed in this book is something you already know to be true, but it's hard to accept because it still hurts too much at the begining of the process. Logically we know that someone having an affair will mourn the loss of the extramarital partner when and if they make the decision to end it. It's a relationship- when it ends, for better or for worse there is a period where it affects that spouse and they will be distant and resistant while they process the loss of the relationship. It's logical, but it doesn't make it easy to accept. I hope people relisten to many of the exercises and really put the work in to follow through on them. I really wish there was a PDF companion to this book that people could download/print to allow people to work through these without having to transcribe the exercises. I feel they are important and worth the effort though. the future still holds a lot of uncertainty, but I feel better in myself and my abilities to meet the challenges ahead and to help us heal our relationship and make it stronger going forward. -review by a betrayed male spouse- 10 years married/3 kids
