Summary
The explosive sequel to the Greig Beck blockbuster Fathomless.
Cate Granger is chasing ghosts.
The monster shark she once encountered was a remnant of the ancient world - one that had escaped an underwater lair previously sealed off for millions of years. At great cost, Cate and her allies had killed the beast. So, no more ghosts, no more shadows. All gone.
Or so Cate thought.
A research ship is sound-blasting the deep seabed looking for petroleum signatures. But in doing so they disturb something that has been hiding in the trenches for countless millennia.
What Cate thought was dead rises from the cold depths of hell. She, Jack Monroe, a Russian billionaire, and her team of marine biologists are forced once more to enter the abyssal zone of the deepest ocean trenches, to confront a creature from the Earth’s distant past.

another gripping book in the series
enjoyed more than book one as you know the characters so emotionally engage. Great sequel.

wasted opportunity
Again with this book the writer had an interesting idea that he wasted.
There was a lot of repetition throughout the book that was inexcusable, and way to many inconsistencies.
There was one bit where they calculated how much the megaladon would need to eat and yet for chapters and chapters earlier and in the previous book they all kept assuming that it would be 'full' already, I mean honestly this is something they should've worked out straight away. Also the 'evolutionary biologist' was useless apaet from panicking or asking people to basically put themselves in harms way without being willing to do so herself. They didn't even scratch the surface of the supposed knowledge of the 'shark expert', it was the billionaire that kept coming up with facts and figures about the sharks and megaladon.
There was no conclusion as to whether it was the original shark or it's off spring. And there was no explanation as to what happened to the Nautilus or the bomb that Valerie set off.
In so many ways this book was predictable and yet it didn't manage to tie up the obvious loose ends that were left behind.
At least the narrator managed to pronounce megaladon slightly more correctly, it wasn't quite as grating as in the first book.
There was a completely wasted opportunity to create a chase scene with the Nautilus and the megaladon. And if Valerie wanted the jaws of a megaladon why didn't the boat have the facility to harpoon the body of the sharks and drag them in. If it had got that capability then they could've autopsied the sharks and learned a lot more about them. And the author could've had the twee conclusion of rescuing some of those that had been swallowed whole.
Really don't understand why this book got 4.5 stars from so many people.

Exciting and catchy
Exciting and catchy story and much better that the first book. There are some really fascinating aspects of the story and it nice that the Megalodon shark isn't the only threat in the abyss. Although, it gets a much more terrifying comeback in the end ^.^

Thrilling and exciting.
I really liked this book as I did the first part. However... (SPOILERS AHEAD!)
The attempt to save 3 people killed at least three times as much people as it saved. Sometimes I think the character decisions and motives are a bit weird. Throwing the Nautilus away like trash? It was one of. kind extremely expensive vessel. Slightly disappointing. But overall I like the writing, I like the characters and I like the story for the most part! Narrating was good and as a non-native I liked the bit slower narration.

A Novel of Deep Terror
A wonderful story of a big shark and his deep sea friends, frolicking in the abyss, whenst all of a sudden some humans get in their briny business and cause all sorts of shenanigans.
If you like seeing (hearing) people who should know better get eaten by sea life, then you'll love this heart warming, coming of age dramady, about a dough eyed remnant species doctor who follows the love of her life, the sassy Dr Jack Monroe, 30,000 feet beneath the waves, in order to persuade a rather large shark to not eat them.
It has everything, sassy doctors, remnant species, sharks, a Russian billionaire, a Russian billionaires over-protective bodyguard with zero respect for work place fraternization, "Alvin", a dog, "Theodore", and a lovely Australian guest house operator.
Alas, in any critical review, there has to be the critiques, and it brings me no small pleasure to say, the narrator still can't pronounce "Carcharodon" still putting an unwanted emphasis on the "ch" sound, as any self respecting shark book listener will tell you, the "ch" is silent, well not the "ch" per say, more of just the "h" in "ch" in "Carcharodon". This sadly overshadows the huge leap in progress he made pronouncing "Megalodon", which was a big relief.
Other than that, the only other disappointment was the complete lack of a "Simon", fingers crossed for book 3.

An excellent story
Most books that have a second one written on the back of the first have no substance and are basically garbage. However this isn't one of them, This is an excellent follow-up to the original and is an excellent story in it's own right.
My utmost congratulations to the author.

Enjoyable but mildly fraustrating
I love stories about Megalodons and other sea "monsters" but boy or boy did Mr Beck milk this one and draw it out, especially the final battle with the sharks. Well worth the listen though. It would be great if Jack and Kate got another adventure.
