Helped my son grow

Bought it for my son, as he said he was struggling with his new wife. Turns out my son too has ADHD (he did not tell us about her getting a diagnosis) and was having anxiety about accepting herself into the family and how to communicate her feelings! Now, he’s using this guide alongside his wife and making me proud by learning that neither of them needs to worry. As long as they can love and accept themselves, that’s all that matters.

Helps deal with issues

When I got into a relationship with my hubby, I had no idea how to handle it or my ADHD. Alongside that, I come with a lot of baggage (PTSD included), so I thought getting this would be beneficial for me and my dearest. We are definitely both impressed with this audiobook and working on us!

Audiobooks like this are fantastic because there is no person to reject how you feel. It is informative and answers a lot of your questions without the words ever needing to be spoken by someone else, who might make you even more anxious.

Be open with yourself first

“Overcome Relationship Anxieties” and “Resolve Conflicts in a Healthy Way” are truly brilliant sections. I did not know how important it is to be open with yourself before trying to love someone else, even if you are already married. I had no idea how to go about doing too, but thanks to this audiobook I now have at least some idea.

Top-notch

A top-notch audiobook on ADHD in marriage (even though it says “marriage”, I would say it applies to the vast majority of committed relationships). I have struggled with an absolute lack of support for my ADHD for years and I am now freshly married too. Therefore, I needed something to aid me in both areas – que Margaret and her fantastic audiobook! I cannot thank the author and narrator enough.

5 stars

I cannot give this audiobook less than five stars. It has not only reignited the passionate love between me and my wifey, but it also helped me get over my past issues with exes that did not like me having ADHD. Thanks so much to Margaret Hampton for being an incredible author!

Throw anxiety in the bin!

Okay, when you are dealing with ADHD, 2 part-time jobs, a university degree, anxiety, and depression, keeping your marriage healthy and strong can be challenging. I have purchased this audiobook as I noticed I started to argue a lot more with my girlfriend recently, as I am not managing our communication too well. This audiobook has taught me a lot about being open and making sure I do not take my frustrations out on my girl. Also, we listened to a few chapters together, in order to figure out how we can communicate better and so far so good! Thanks so much – I hate being an anxious stress-head towards my girlfriend.

Not what I was looking for

There is some accurate information about Adult ADHD in this book and I also appreciated that it was fairly short but that is about all I can say for positives. A lot of the material felt very condescending and blaming towards the ADHD affected spouse. I feel like if you have one spouse who has ADHD and the other is a perfect neurotypical that is wonderful at everything but gets frustrated with and doesn’t understand their ADHD spouse then this will be great for them. Otherwise, not so great. This book seems to miss the nuances of relationships and human behavior and definitely pathologizes ADHD.

Control your emotions

Controlling yourself, especially emotionally, is hard work, especially if you just came out of an abusive relationship or are still dealing with an abuser you are married to. Life is not always kind, but audiobooks like this one definitely make it easier to stand back on your feet. By explaining what ADHD is and how important it is to respect it in a healthy, loving marriage, the author educates the listeners. Including many sections dedicated to explanations of healthy relationships and how to understand each other helps massively on the road to recovery. I really appreciate this audiobook, and I know you will too! It truly is a product worthy of five stars. I am on my way to divorce and recovery before looking for a new love.

Heart-to-heart

Thanks to whoever recommended this audiobook on Reddit! I managed to get my wife to listen to this audiobook too and we are doing much better for it. Thanks to Mrs. Hampton’s advice, we decided to arrange to meet up next weekend and actually have a proper heart-to-heart.

Worth your time and money

I have to say that this audiobook is definitely worth both your time and your money. I have gone through many books on dealing with ADHD in relationships, but this one is the most detailed and easy to understand. I love the sections on conflicts and how leaving them unsolved can negatively impact a marriage long-term. It saved me a lot of effort and time in the long run, so people – grab your copies!

Being open and honest

Being open and honest with your other half can be very difficult and a rather scary experience, especially for people like me – suffering from ADHD, anxiety, and past trauma from toxic relationships. This guide was really helpful in both bringing my wife and me closer together, and also in fuelling my courage to have a proper talk with her about my emotions and ADHD. Thanks to the author, we are much closer and stronger together – and only getting better! Obviously, learning to adjust fully will take time, so give yourself a good few listens and time to implement what you agreed. Margaret Hampton has other audiobooks that are useful too – I would recommend getting a book on ADHD and social anxiety too, looking back at it.

The importance of talking

I feel like talking about ADHD in marriage is underrated these days – it is all about texting and standards. Talking about the effect of ADHD on marriages has become more and more difficult since we are living in such a fast-paced era. I found myself absolutely terrified going into University and meeting my (now) husband, as I had no previous related experience and did not really know how to… relationship? I am so glad I purchased this audiobook – it even has a section titled “Overcome Relationship Anxieties”! We have been through quite a few little arguments and this really helped me understand how I can talk to him. Similarly, when he listened to it, he said the same. We are both much better and stronger for it, going into the second year of Uni together now. Whoop!

Understanding each other

Big, big thumbs up to the author. Margaret Hampton gets it – people with ADHD are really complex and we often fail to understand each other. That is exactly why we need guides like this – packed full of advice, tips, and exercises that will help us on our way into happy marriages. I have been in many various relationships, both vanilla and not (wink wink). Knowledge truly is *KEY* - nothing should be left unspoken in relationships and you should always keep educating yourselves. After all, you should be able to trust the other person completely, and that is what this guide will help you with. From learning about the impact of anxiety on your marriage/relationship, and to the art of practicing empathy with your partner, Margaret has your back. 5/5.

None of us were communicating

This audiobook is what helped us step away from the situation and realize that none of us were communicating our needs. Neither of us knew how anxious or stressed the other was, as we got absorbed by routine and our spark was dying. Margaret Hampton’s advice is a 5/5 – tried and tested. -From a woman who is in love with her hubby again!
