Summary
K. J. Charles turns up the heat in her new Society of Gentlemen novel as two lovers face off in a sensual duel that challenges their deepest beliefs.
Silas Mason has no illusions about himself. He's not lovable or even likable. He's an overbearing idealist, a radical bookseller and pamphleteer who lives for revolution...and for Wednesday nights. Every week he meets anonymously with the same man, in whom Silas has discovered the ideal meld of intellectual companionship and absolute obedience to his sexual commands. But, unbeknownst to Silas, his closest friend is also his greatest enemy, with the power to see him hanged - or spare his life.
A loyal, well-born gentleman official, Dominic Frey is torn apart by his affair with Silas. By the light of day, he cannot fathom the intoxicating lust that drives him to meet with the radical week after week. In the bedroom everything else falls away. Their needs match, and they are united by sympathy for each other's deepest vulnerabilities. But when Silas' politics earn him a death sentence, desire clashes with duty, and Dominic finds himself doing everything he can to save the man who stole his heart.

Ignore the cover- it's not your typical love story
From the get go, this story is engaging. There is sex but it's not awful like in other stories. There's character in these characters and they aren't just copy and paste vanilla male adonises like so many of gay modern romances.
There's a plot which isn't just about love which is great!
The voice acting is good as you can distinguish the characters from each other.
I didn't realised they had used a stock image for the cover as this story is set in the 1820s and so it's not really what I'd expect, Which is a shame that they used the image to sell their book but really good reviews.
It is refreshing to find a gay romance book that isn't trash.

This lady can write a Good story!
Would you consider the audio edition of A Seditious Affair to be better than the print version?
Yes, only because it is read to you by Matthew Lloyd Davies and he pulls you into the story and characters that KJ Charles has created.
What other book might you compare A Seditious Affair to, and why?
I don't think I can compare A Seditious Affair to any other book I have read....KJ Charles is in a league of her own.
Have you listened to any of Matthew Lloyd Davies’s other performances? How does this one compare?
A Fashionable Indulgence. The first book in KJ Charles A Society of Gentlemen series. I think both are equal in performance. KJ Charles couldn't have got a better man for the job.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Prepare to think and be dazzled.
Any additional comments?
Will make you rethink on your convictions.

Superb story brilliantly narrated
I'm a straight seventy something woman but this series, although featuring gay men and fairly graphic sex, is rivetting for the story line alone.

Fabulous!
This is my favourite KJ Charles novel, so I knew I liked the story. The narration really brought it alive. I loved Silas's voice, in particular.

This book has everything anyone could wish for
Where does A Seditious Affair rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Definitely in the top 10
What did you like best about this story?
Apart from the meticulously researched historical content; the love story between the two main characters was breathtaking and superior.
What does Matthew Lloyd Davies bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Matthew Lloyd Davies brings another dimension, he breathes life into an already wonderful story. His range of tone and voices is incredible, I had to remind myself that this was one man, reading a myriad of different characters of all ages, class etc. Simply superb!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Not really, the whole book, from start to finish is perfect. If I had to choose one; the first kiss between Silas and Dominic was stunning and moving.
Any additional comments?
I have only recently read/listened to this author with the first two books in this series and I am firmly hooked. I have already searched her backlist and been disappointed to learn that there are no other audio versions available for download in the UK. I only hope that the partnership between the author and narrator continues and we see some more of this talented duo.

What a fantastic sequel
I preferred this to the first book, there was much more tension and nuance and risk involved. Thoroughly enjoyable, and can’t wait to read the mini instalments and get to listen to the next third book.

Fantastic gripping historical political romance
Great characters, drama, and turns of phrase, and super psyched to see what part 3 has in store. I usually am content with a lighter dusting of plot with my erotica/romances, but K J Charles has crafted a cast of wonderful three dimensional characters navigating a turbulent whilst believeable world and their journeys within. Also loved hearing Matthew Lloyd Davies bring new key characters to life - great range and commitment and excited to see who we get to know next!
