Summary

A year after the sudden and devastating death of her parents, Liv Price faces the inevitable task of packing up her childhood home - on her 21st birthday, no less. Her plans are thwarted as disaster in the form of an earthquake strikes, and Liv is sucked into another world.

Alcatar, a land full of magic and mystery, awakens something within her that is wild and dangerous. Liv is desperate to return to Earth, but the powers-at-large only want one thing: her blood.

After clawing his way out of the slums, Commander Ryland Archard now works for the Overlord of Tessar, the most powerful man on the continent. As his personal assassin, Ryland is tasked with hunting and killing those who threaten the safety of his kingdom at any cost necessary. On a mission with his team, Ryland crosses paths with Liv Price, and his life is thrown into chaos, ripping apart the world he thought he knew.

His only goal: return Liv to Earth. If he can keep her alive long enough.

On the run for their lives, Liv and her befriended team of assassins uncover the truth about her past and discover just how deep they are in a scandalous war between nations.

Try as she might to deny it, Liv’s traitorous heart longs for this world - and a certain broody assassin. Liv must decide if she will embrace the powers that were gifted to her to save not only herself but a race of magical people desperate for a leader.

Let Me Tell You....

Let me tell you, I have not been generous with 5 Stars lately. 4 at the very best, but this book deserves 7 or 8 stars!! I LOVED it!! Too many books now have these female main characters where they think they are tough and will "tell someone off" but never act on their thoughts and end up cowering to others. Not this book. Not Liv! For anyone that loves fantasy, this book is for you! Clean, fun read! It has definitely made a way onto my favorite list in all areas, stories, characters, author, narrator, all the way around! Best losten of 2021, and that will not change!

An awesome world

I really love this book. One of my favorite book themes is a seemingly normal girl being thrown into a not so normal world... extra points if it’s a different dimension. This book hit all the high points with new creatures and species and a sadistic enemy. Some parts were predictable but in a sweet and enjoyable way. It was a creative concept.

I don’t know if this is going to be a series (I hope so) but if it isn’t, I feel satisfied with how it ended.

The narration was also well done!

A great listening experience

I love fantasy and this has a lot of it. Adventurous and exciting. A little predictable here and there but easily overlooked.
I’m looking forward to the next book.
The narrator was a joy to listen to.

It was okay, but looking forward to the next book!

I really liked the story in the sense that it tied in fantasy and sci-fi. It also has a very interesting general plot and I’m totally invested in almost all the characters, which is probably the most important. I want to know what happens next, which is why I’m going to read the next book, but the way that it was written just seems blah to me. There were plot holes and I often wondered why characters weren’t doing
things in the way I thought they they would. Made me feel like the characters were being stupid. Great concept and characters, but average execution. And I thought her being from Earth was going to make a cool difference in the story, but it didn’t really do anything (don’t want to give away any spoilers!).

The narration was good! Not totally blown away, but I was still satisfied.

Superior Narration and a Creative Unique Story

So much good to say about Morgan Adam's first novel in addition to truly professional-quality Narration by Kim Churchill: The Alacatar world is expertly created and the character development exceptional. The central characters are very relatable and easy to connect to and care about. The pacing of the story is intense but in the best of ways, creating a wild ride for the audience. So much happens, but I was never lost, even with only the audiobook version.

I did feel that better editing was deserved and would have significantly elevated this incredible book which was such a fun and captivating journey into a unique fantasy world.

grate listen

this was a good listen the story really progresses well and moves from one moment to the next without being bogged down. the narrator doesn't do a great job with male character voices but that is to be expected from a female narrator. with that being said all the characters do not sound the same and you can tell the difference between the characters. my biggest issue with this book was the battles and fighting they didn't go into very much detail, and some battles were glossed over completely. this book seems to be more of a love story than an action fantasy.
