Summary
Christmas is looming and Jack De Lacy needs a solution to one hell of a fix.
Dumped by his boyfriend in favor of his best friend, Jack's been busy bragging about a hot new man in his life.
A hot new man who doesn't exist.
With an important function to attend where he'll come face-to-face with his ex, Jack knows he'll be a laughing stock when his boasts are exposed as nothing more than wishful thinking. He's desperate but time, like his options, is running out.
Rory Kincaid is scared he won't last another night sleeping rough on London's frozen, snowbound streets. With all the homeless shelters full, Rory seeks refuge in the first empty doorway he stumbles across.
Finding Rory shivering in the sub-zero temperatures, Jack can no more send him away than kick a puppy out into the cold. A shower, shave and hot drink later, the grubby street kid is transformed into a beautiful young man.
As the attraction between them grows, so does a plan that will get Jack out of the mess he's in and give Rory a warm, safe home for Christmas. Sweet and adorable, Rory will make a great fake boyfriend for the festive season - the problem is, neither Jack nor Rory is sure where make-believe ends and truth begins.
Warning: this novella contains a camp Christmas tree, a drag queen Christmas fairy called Doris, way too many jugs of eggnog, a closet posh boy, and the sweetest Kiss Before Christmas ever.

Heart-warming Christmas Tale
I listened to this story on Christmas Day, and that felt appropriate. These days homelessness is becoming more and more frequent, and although Rory wasn’t homeless because he was gay, he had faced a set of circumstances that led him to being that way. Things that could happen to any of us. And although he wound up on Jack’s doorstep, it could have gone horribly wrong. In those temperatures, he might have died. That happens to people and it’s beyond tragic. That many of us live in wealthy countries and there are homeless speaks to a distinct lack of empathy and will to do something about it.
But I digress.
Rory does wind up on Jack’s doorstep and Jack is unable to send the young man away into a raging snowstorm. At first, it’s just a sandwich. Then, okay, a shower. Then… Yeah. So Jack essentially has a new roommate for at least the next few days. But Rory might also be the solution to Jack’s problem. Jack was dumped by his boyfriend and then betrayed by his best mate. The two most important men in Jack’s life hooked up under his nose and left him high and dry. That Jack has to be around them for a charity he volunteers for just rubs salt in the wound.
Not wanting to seem like a loser, Jack has made up a boyfriend. Now that Christmas is here, people in his life (including his well-meaning family) are clamouring to meet said boyfriend. Rory offers to help and with a growing attraction between the men, it seems the solution. Except Jack hasn’t been honest with Rory about who he really is and that is bound to make a difference. So the question is…will they still be together in the New Year?
I have to say I enjoyed this audio. It was on the short side but that was okay because the story came together really nicely. And as someone who struggles through Christmas, this was the perfect story of two people coming together and finding love.
Now, of course I have to mention Dan Calley. He’s a great narrator and I always enjoy his performances. So yes, a little holiday cheer is in order and I’ve scoped out there are two more books in the series and I plan to pick them up.

A Lovely Christmas Love Story
A Kiss Before Christmas is the first book in the Rory and Jack series, a sweet, contemporary romance that made my heart feel warm once I finished it. Jack finds Rory shivering in the cold, homeless and alone. In act of good will, Jack lets Rory stay with him to weather out the worst of the cold. Soon they become friends and feelings start to bloom. The entire story is full of sweetness with just enough angst to introduce even more sweet and cute moments to soothe away the angst. I really enjoyed this book and immediately fell in love with Rory and Jack.
The audiobook was narrated by Dan Calley who did a fantastic job with the narration. I love Dan’s voice and he really brought a lot of emotional tenderness to this audiobook performance. The audiobook production was well done and a really enjoyable listen.

as good as the ebook
The story is always 4-5 stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook. I can't listen to an audiobook without knowing the book, that's not possible for me.
The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, I’m over the half, but I listen enough to give a review.
PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!
To my ratings:
5* - very very good
it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A
3* - it's more then a one-time-listening.

A wonderful, sweet, Christmas story and I loved it
I loved this book so much when I read it and listening to the fantastic voice of Dan Calley brought back all the feels I got when I read it back in November 2018. Dan does great voices and his performance style is easy to listen to. I can't wait to start listening to the next book in this series!
This book hit me in the feels everywhere; it broke my heart in places and then put it back together again. Please read the blurb, it's good.
A Kiss Before Christmas has lots of hurt/comfort to it and a fake boyfriend angle. I practically bawled my eyes out in a couple of places (but that means I really loved it) for the things that Rory faced before Jack found him. Don't think that it's all angsty, though, as there were some places that I burst out laughing.
I can't recommend this Christmas novella enough. Ms. Ryecart, your first Christmas story is a winner!
A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.

Pulls the Heartstrings at Christmas
This has all the good feels for a Christmas time read. With AE Ryecart as the author and Dan Calley as the narrator you can't go wrong. There's everything you need here from a touch of angst to snow at Christmas. AE Ryecart knows how to craft a good story and this is a light listen with a good story line. One of the main characters has recently found out that, niether his live in boyfriend nor his best friend, deserves their titles but a young homeless man he finds on his doorstep is his salvation. There are some tricky moments when Jack's heritage is discovered but it just needs that social divide to be surmounted for a happy outcome. I highly recommend this book which was given to me in return for a free and unbiased review.

Too short
Nice enough but too short, without spoilers it would perhaps have been more interesting if MCs circumstances were reversed.
I know parts 2 & 3 are available to continue the journey, and we've only had the start but 3:45 hours is a waste of a credit. Upside it is Whispersync but that is only cost effective if you borrow through KU.

A Christmas kiss....
What a delightful story, set before Christmas, Jack broken hearted and determined to drink his sorrows away as he mourns the loss of Sam, his boyfriend who ran off with his best friend. After boasting to his friends/family that he has a new boyfriend, he's not looking forward to Christmas with his family, and not having a special someone to take with him. He stumbles upon Rory, down on his luck and homeless, will Rory take his mind off Sam for an hour or two. I love the description of the main characters, you can picture them so easily.
The narration by Dan Calley is once again wonderful with his seductive tones, love listening to his books. This book is full of ups and downs but in the end we do get an HEA. A beautiful start, can't wait to read /listen to book 2 in this series.

Sweet and whimsical Christmas story
First off, I find myself enjoying this gay story, despite the lack of any sexual content, it's nice to have a love story that is completely chaste from time to time. The love between Jack and Rory is real and charming.
Second, the story plot is used far more often in Christmas themed stories, going back to Dickens' Christmas Carol, but I do enjoy a story where a down trodden person is lifted up by someone, who feels the Christmas spirit and is themselves improved by their actions. Jack's act of kindness not only saved Rory's life, but he now has a real chance at love.
Finally, the narration was very good, I enjoy the British accent and the voice acting handled Jack and Rory's voices very well with unique takes.

I read this book when it first came out and loved it then. The characters are wonderfully realized with flaws and misunderstandings/miscommunications that feel real instead of obvious plot devices to move the story along. Listening to the audio version was like rediscovering the book all over again, Dan does a fantastic job. I'm so glad so got to revisit this gem of a story in another form.

Utterly beautiful and well told
I adore this story of Jack and Rory. The magic of Christmas is all over it, even to Jack starting out as a proverbial Grinch. Dan Calley’s narration is spot on – gentle Rory, brusque Jack, sleazy Basil, and awful Sam are brought to life. I love his rough voice, it fits right in with Ryecart’s penchant for young men in dire circumstances – yet posh Jack is totally believable as well. Dan is flexible but not overdramatic, and lets the words speak for themselves. It also was easy to understand for this Yank. This is the first audiobook I’ve ever listened to and it’s got me wanting more – on to An Easter Promise!

Sweet and hopeful
Jack and Rory have both been let down hard by their former boyfriends and other people in their lives. With Christmas around the corner they both find themselves dejected, and Rory is quite litterally on the down and out. Then, by chance, they meet and everything changes.
I loved how warm this story is, no matter how cold the weather in the book is (and it really is) the growing feelings between Jack and Rory are like a beautiful flower growing in the snow, unexpected and therefore ever more magical.
This is a story full of feelings, hope, and love. You don’t have to listen to it during the holiday season, but be prepared to get a craving for Christmas food no matter what time of year you listen to it.
Dan Calley’s voice is charming and clear and brings both Jack and Rory to life in a distinct way.

Love is the best Christmas gift!
A lovely and sweet Christmas story.
Jack finds an unexpected gift on his doorstep...a homeless young man, Rory. Unable to send the young man off into the snowy night, he offers him a cuppa which becomes shelter for the night and then more...a "boyfriend" for the holidays.
What starts out as a way for Jack to avoid the embrassement of having faked a new boyfriend to his parents and to show his ex he has moved on, Jack asks Rory to be his boyfriend for the holidays. A win-win for them both that ends up becoming much more then either expected.
Lots of warm and sweet feels with just a bit of misunderstanding and worries by Jack and Rory that make for a wonderful Christmas tale.
A E Ryecart brings the warmth and cheer of Christmas in London to life along with the need to eat mince pies in front of a rainbow boa wrapped Christmas tree and a campy queen of a tree topper.
Dan Calley's outstanding voice is the icing on the Christmas cake- Rich and so delious.
