Summary
They may be famous, but they’re no less human - the quirks, the drama, and the not so obvious side of baseball.
Even in a sport as legendary as baseball, players are no exception to the roller-coaster ride of life.
Every single person has their own tale of failure, courage, and success, no matter how big or small - it’s when you put them together that you unearth the ultimate underdog story.
In A Game of Extremes, you will discover 25 stories of the most exceptional baseball players to this day, revealing a more transparent look at the lives of these famous athletes:
- 10 tons of guacamole and a samurai sword, please: the player who was more known for his quirks than his skill - but no less talented than the rest
- The beloved pitcher who was the inspiration behind both a movie character and an April Fools' joke that duped the nation
- The trickster who “stole” first base, forever leaving his mark with the new official rule that followed
- One player’s six wise rules for staying young and achieving lifelong success - all compiled through experience
- Baseball on LSD: how one pitcher navigated an entire game high, and even threw a no-hitter
- The player with all odds against him - think a birthday of Friday the 13th and a death date of April Fools' Day - and how he rose to hold a place in the National Baseball Hall of Fame
- And much more
Don’t let the game fool you - there’s more to baseball than meets the eye.

You’ll like this book
There are chapters on some of the well-known players and their antics: Yogi, of course; Billy Martin, Fred Merkle, and Jackie Mitchell. But the more obscure events or player quirks or lesser-known stories are the best. In particular, I liked the chapters on Dave Bresnahan and Zack Greinke. If you like baseball, if you like baseball history, and if you like the oddball characters who have played the game for over 160 years, you'll like this book.

Perfect for baseball fans like my husband!
My husband is a huge baseball fan and he enjoyed this so much! He loves players like Babe Ruth so was very pleased that he was a part of the book as well as many more of the worlds greatest hitters. He loved how much detail the author goes into about these legendary players and their stories. The narrator is also really engaging! The chapters are so well laid out and entertaining. He couldn't recommend this audiobook enough to anyone who is a baseball fan or a fan of sport or history in general!

I didn't know baseball is this interesting!
My people love baseball. I always just sat on the sidelines and watched them enjoy games and talk for hours about change-ups and battery and whatever other words I couldn't understand. When this book was recommended, I was slow to listen until I started. If someone had introduced baseball to me like this I would have been a fan from long ago. The stories here are so interesting!

Fantastic Audiobook
Fantastic audiobook filled with exceptional stories indeed. Even the great baseball players go through their own struggles, just like the rest of us, and this audiobook is a great reminder that when the odds are against you, just keep going! I found the stories inspiring, insightful and entertaining and I learned a lot. Well done to Lingster for this great book.

Extraordinary baseball tales
I thoroughly enjoyed, "A Game of Extremes," which contains twenty five interesting stories about the national pastime. The stories include exceptional tales (and at times, the not so exceptional) from baseball's allure. Lingster includes fascinating tidbits on baseball greats such as Ty Cobb, Satchel Paige, Yogi Berra, and the very peculiar Rube Waddell. The author also presents stories of baseball abnormalities - such as the Golden sombrero, games ending on a balk, stealing first base, Merkle's boner, and much more! "A Game of Extremes" is an easy and amusing listen for any baseball fan.

25 Tired, Tired Stories
This is a very uninspired retelling of some of the most already over-told stories in baseball history presented with no particular depth or insight. Worst of all, the narrator manages to botch virtually every name in the book -- not just a few but, really, almost every single name. How is it that no one with even a passing familiarity with the subject matter of the book can be in the studio during a recording such as this to say, "Hey, wait a minute, you butchered another one."

Amazing resource!
I've always been a fan of baseball and this is such a wonderful listening experience! I love the baseball stories that were shared here, very engaging and perfect for any fan or beginner as it provides information that goes beyond the surface of the sport. The narration was done well with a good pace, making it simple to absorb the content. Highly recommended if you want to know the historical background on baseball and not just about the mechanics. 5 stars!

Still America’s favorite pastime
Baseball was my first love. Playing it and watching it was the only thing I wanted to do when I was a kid. These stories take me back to that time when baseball was full of magic and wonder to me. And having the accompanying PDF of the audio book was great for following along and looking back at later.
