Summary

When John Hanley makes his lonely journey home from London for Christmas in 1956, his train is delayed due to snow in Shropshire. His wife has left him. He thinks his father won't notice if he doesn't arrive. Waiting for the last train, alone on the platform, a chance encounter with a stranger changes his life forever.

Intended for those seeking a traditional short ghost story to listen to by the fire on those dark winter nights...

Great stories

Really well written set of 4 ghost stories for the festive season .
Tony Walker brings each story to life narrating beautifully ,he paints a vivid picture of each tale , very atmospheric you really feel like you are experiencing the situations of each character ,,like walking in their shoes .
I particularly enjoyed ,story one ,the sad tale of John who's wife had left him ,and he only had dark suicidal thoughts as he waited for the last train home ,on a cold frozen lonely railway station .
The other is story 4 set in wartime Edinburgh ,a lonely doctor helps a ghostly old woman ,from a poor background who's daughter is having a baby ,the kind doctor helps the daughter to give birth ,the story has a moral to it ,because the doctor helped a poor woman have her first child ,he gets positive news that his own daughter is going to have a baby ,
And he even gets a Christmas present from his secretary ,who gives him a pair of winter gloves .as he forgot to wear his gloves in the cold of the story .,

Nice Ghost Stories

If you want horrible endings these won't appeal. If you want ghosts who show kindness and are a bit different these are just what the doctor ordered, which is very fitting since the last story is about an Edinburgh doctor. I've bought a few Tony Walker and am looking forward to reading them all. He's a great narrator too.

I loved every dark, melancholy tale in this short book. perfect for a cold winter's evening. I wish it didn't end. Narrator's performance suited the stories.
