Ukay J. Ekong

Ukay J. Ekong was born and raised on the northeast side of Dallas, Texas. His father and mother, Imoh and Grace, were both hard-working white collar Nigerian immigrants, providing great examples on overcoming some of life’s toughest obstacles, while also representing the value of putting your best foot forward every day. Ukay began writing by accident, if you can believe it. This took place when he was around 6 or 7, by way of just engaging in routine morning journaling exercises offered daily as class curriculum during his time at Thomas Haley Elementary in Irving, Texas. His work ethic and big heart can be represented in his involvement as a youth mentor for the organization, Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Dallas, and volunteer work every Sunday as a Bible school teacher. Finding his calling early, Ukay decided he was best positioned to focus all his energy around writing stories and offering ideas that detail physical and spiritual health, as well as mental support specifically for African-American youth and adults. Through is writings readers understand and appreciate his openness on his admission to struggles with childhood trauma and bullying. Totaling six books to date, which includes a highly anticipated children’s book, along with an audiobook advocating for mental health, the future looks bright. Right now the main focus overall is finding new ways to pour back into underserved people and communities to uplift, educate, and empower. The hope is that his story will help remind others that even broken people can be used for greatness.
