Tovah P. Klein, Ph.D. is the Director of the Barnard College Center for Toddler Development (Barnard Toddler Center) and a psychology professor at Barnard College, Columbia University. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan and holds a doctorate in psychology from Duke University. She was a clinical fellow at Harvard University, Boston Children's Hospital and a visiting scholar at UCLA. Dr. Klein has been steeped in work with parents and toddlers for nearly three decades and considers the toddler-world a 'toddlertopia'. She has been referred to as the 'toddler whisperer' and finds humor an essential piece of parenthood (her own and those she works with). She conducts research on early development, including parenting challenges and work and family issues; children’s play; sleep and separation; and child trauma. She writes for and is frequently quoted in the media, including the New York Times, Washington Post, Huffington Post, Parents.com, Everydayhealth.com and Slate.com. Dr. Klein consults worldwide to programs for young children, was a developmental advisor to Sesame Street, and is on the advisory boards of Room to Grow, Ubuntu Education Fund, Rwanda Educational Assistance Project, PerDev, and LearnNow.org.
