Gary Williams is from Chicago, where he has been playing and teaching Chess for over two decades—growing up in a small, working-class family, perusing his passion for the game and everything that it entails. Gary has played and won dozens of chess tournaments at the local and national levels, seeks to encourage others, and help them realize that they can do the same. Teaching Chess is a passion of Gary's. He has devoted his time to writing pieces, speaking publicly, and helping others break into the sport's often-gatekept and challenging competitive world. He has often said that playing Chess, whether for fun or as a part of a competition, will keep your mind sharper than any amount of education. Speaking with novices, experienced players, groups, teams, and more – Gary devotes his time to the betterment of others, teaching them the ins and outs and helping make Chess accessible to players from all brackets, backgrounds, and skillsets. He travels with his wife all around the country to speak and watch tournaments alike and looks forward to extending his love of the game to any who will listen.
