Chloë Mayer grew up in east London but spent much of her twenties travelling abroad. She lived and worked in Tokyo and Los Angeles for several years, and while in the US she wrote a short story that beat more than 8,000 others to win a prize and publication in an anthology. She began work on her first novel shortly afterwards and finished it upon her return home to London, where she now works as a national newspaper journalist.
